DanaNM replied to the topic Opinions on if my cage is big enough in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 4 years, 6 months ago
I think that cage sounds great and they will do just fine with that plus some free-roam time in the room. 🙂
I also have a senior with arthritis and I like to keep him penned for part of the day, just so he is closer to his litter box and will rest on his soft fleece (he tends to like to sleep on slippery cold floor, which is not good for his…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Help ! My rabbit is not eating hay! in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 6 months ago
I would have his molars checked by a rabbit savvy vet. Rabbits use their molars to chew hay, and if they have molar spurs it can cause pain when they chew (but they are usually able to eat pellets). It’s important to rule out dental issues any time you see “picky-ness” in eating, and especially if his hay eating is low enough that he’s having…[Read more]

Lol! Their names have stories behind them. They just kinda happened naturally.
With Bunnito, he would like being held while wrapped in a towel like a lil bunny burrito as a baby. So, I just started to call him Bunnito… And, it stuck! 🤣
He also has the nickname Toesie. One day he was grooming his feetsies and I said to him “Bunnito, are you…[Read more]

I agree that sounds exactly like spraying! How long ago was he neutered? It can take a few weeks for hormonal behaviors to calm down.
How long has this behavior been going on? Have there been any changes in your house? Like new pets, people, or furniture?

DanaNM replied to the topic How did you decide whether to get another bun? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 6 months ago
Welcome back! I’m so sorry for your loss. 🙁 That is really amazing that they lived to be almost 13!
I’ve had a few dif experiences getting new buns after I’ve lost one. I’ve pretty much always had a pair, and several times now have lost one of the pair. So the decision to get another was more based on re-bonding the bun that was…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic First GI Stasis episode in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 6 months ago
It’s really hard to say, but it does sound like you may have fended off a worse episode.
It’s really hard to know a bun’s full history and what might affect their gut. I do recall a member who’s bun would have issues if he ate even 1 browned mint leaf!
I think taking away both the possible culprits is a good move. Does he generally eat plenty of…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Booty Cleaning in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 6 months ago
I second the Sheepette recommendation! I just set up my senior’s pen with it (after wick’s recommendation) and it’s wonderful.
Also, if you do need to do a bum bath, this video shows how to do it safely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UcoZHBlQ80
I think folks with disabled buns will usually do bum baths about once a week.

DanaNM replied to the topic Hay Only Diet in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 6 months ago
Some bunnies do need a hay-only diet. In those cases, it’s recommended to provide a variety of hays.
That said, I’d be a little concerned there is something else going on, because that sounds like she was in extreme and sudden pain. Has the vet ruled out liver torsion? (I’m sorry if I’ve asked this before) It can often present like GI issues.

Just as the topic says. I wanted to post a lil birthday thread for my bunbuns. They turned 9 years old this month!
In April, they will have been with me for 9 years. ♡
They are my lil floofy butts and I am glad they are still with me. 😆
Enjoy some pictures of them throughout the years. ♡

Can you try to record this happening? It’s possible it’s not a scream, and could be “clucking” if it’s happening in a relaxed state.

@HoneybunAndElliott – Peachy is fine, so is Coco – the little one introduced in June, they don’t quite get along yet – there really isn’t anything I could be doing in terms of bio safety that I’m not already doing short of going coo-coo bananas with Lysol like some people you’ve probably seen…..Which would do more harm than good. Your experience…[Read more]

Maria2022 replied to the topic Hay Only Diet in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 6 months ago
Bunnies are ok with hay only diet, in fact this should be 80% of their diet. For few days hay only diet should be fine. Just make sure your bunny is eating plenty of hay and pooping well. I think you caught your bunny on early GI stasis and it recovered.

bastion replied to the topic Spay for my holland lop in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 6 months ago
I am curious to see what another vet says, if it’s possible to get a second opinion. It doesn’t really make sense to me that they wouldn’t be able to remove ovaries only because they’re “underdeveloped” – it sounds like she might not have developed fully as a baby, but that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be able to be spayed. Organs are organs. And I…[Read more]

Last night I was awakened by a tremendous clatter from downstairs, and, being unused to the noise, I didn’t recognize it. I booked it downstairs, and found Loki with the honey pot container in his mouth, shaking it and rattling the plastic shapes inside, and having a ball doing so. So I’d call this a win.

You may see extra cecals for the next couple of days, but other than keeping him off treats for a little while so he takes in hay and water, he should be fine. It is amazing what rabbits can eat and be okay.

Aww that sounds so similar to what I went through. I’m glad they relaxed upstairs, I saw the same thing with mine. I’m guessing having them out of the picture might help the boys bond more easily too.

I agree with LBJ10.
Also if you notice that the sound occurs when the male and female interact and she is trying to get away from the male or if the female knows the male is going to attempt to mount they can make a whimping type noise that indicates that they dont want to be mounted by the male anymore. This can idicate they are a little…[Read more]
