I agree with LBJ. Meibomian cysts often don’t bother the patient, if it does, or start to increase in size, you can have it lanced. Humans can get meibomian cysts as well and they tend to go away after a few weeks without surgical intervention.

It should come naturally, right? Well, both our bunnies (one died last week) refuse eating hay. We have switched out different brands but they won’t nibble on hay. I just got new and expensive timothy hay from a local farmer but Ben won’t eat it. I have caught him nibbling a strand or two but that’s about it. The bonded bunny who died also rarely…[Read more]

I agree stasis is a symptom and the root cause tends to lie elsewhere.

I have used TMZ (it’s called Bactrim here) for a lower respiratory infection in a rabbit. He got oral Bactrim, twice per day for 2 weeks. He also got terbutaline for 5 days to help with breathing, I had to dissolve pills for human children to get the proper dose. The vet is…[Read more]

Hello everyone. So I am bonding my two bunnies, and just want to know if they are making progress, or none at all. I started bonding my two buns, both neutered and spayed, after 1 month of living close to each other and swapping their litter boxes and food bowls. Their first meeting went okay, lots of humping from the male bun, and female bun…[Read more]

They find a way! Lol, when I was bonding my first pair over 2 years ago, I was super nervous and frustrated with bonding. I went to sleep one night, woke up the next morning, and my female had hopped right into the male’s pen. There was one small tuft of fur pulled off of him, but otherwise fine and they were snuggling. It was in a room right next…[Read more]

My previous bun loved her banana flavored pain med that she was on long term. I was grateful for that. This new boy runs away from all five of his meds. Just finished his third course and this time it took a little shorter to get them in.

You may be able to coax him into a carrier and do nebulizing that way, I know of a few members who’ve devised various contraptions for long term.

Does he like his antibiotics? Some of them taste sweet so the bun will take it willingly, or you can mix it with a little mashed banana to turn it into a treat.

I agree that ponazeril is the one to ask for, if you haven’t been given it already.

Some recovery food (critical care or similar) would also be good him as it has the nutrition he needs and water.

Treating the coccidia is much more important than addressing a dietary issue, it’s important he has enough calories while he is fighting the…[Read more]

I thought perhaps some capillaries ruptured (like he scratched at it), but if it’s on both eyes then I don’t know. The only thing you can really do at home is a warm compress. They often go away with just that. If there is an infection, then a vet may need to lance it. Try to compresses though first.

I hope the antibiotics work. He hates being picked up.  So I would hate to pick him up twice a day.

Yes I understand that stasis is a symptom so I’m really hoping to find the root especially he’s so young. I didn’t know the sneezing could be so bad but the x ray showed it though.  And the incisor issue i really didn’t think could be the cause. But who knows. Oh and the molting too. In Southern California we are on A/C currently in Feb. can you…[Read more]

Which medication did your vet prescribe for your bun? There is one for coccidiosis called ponazeril which kills coccidia by targeting the “plastid body” of the protozoan and more importantly, only requires two days of treatment, which I think your bun will need stat. I would also ask the vet for pain killers as well because it will help a lot in…[Read more]

I’m so so sorry for your loss. 🙁

It’s really good he was able to spend time with her body and say his goodbyes. Bunnies that are able to do that usually handle things quite well (sometimes better than we do honestly).

Her scent will naturally decline over time, he will be able to tell between “fresh” and “old” smells, so I wouldn’t worry about…[Read more]

I’m glad you booked him in! I totally agree that x-rays are a great tool. Were the back teeth checked when you did the x-ray?

And I agree with Wick, stasis generally a symptom rather than an illness in itself, so any other health concern could cause it in theory.

Nebulizing is very effective, and usually is pretty relaxing for the bun (you…[Read more]

    1. (I am not a vet) — In actuality (and quite frustratingly), anything that could cause a rabbit distress seems plausible to lead to stasis, since not eating is a reaction a rabbit can have to virtually any stressor, and that lack of hay consumption/generally food movement through the gut is going to lead the GI system malfunctioning. So yes, the…

We went to the vet yesterday and looks like there are more going than the molt. But molting stills plays a role I agree. So you think it’s more of a compromised immune system than molting creating extra hair ball (obstruction)?

I posted updates from the vet in the comment
