I have only heard of it happening in experiments where they artificially suppressed the rabbits’ immune system.

Hi everyone. I am wondering if it is possible for a rabbit to catch mononucleosis from a person? Has anybody here ever had mononucleosis and been around their rabbit? Thank you in advance!

Hoping no more seizures for Apollo! For his sake mainly, but your budgets as well.

If the mounting doesn’t lead to fighting, then I think you should just let this play out. By her running away, she’s telling him that she will no let him mount. Eventually he’ll get the message that she wants to be groomed, not mounted!

I think this may actually be something to push through in longer sessions. My Bun Jovi is a mounter, and it…[Read more]

    Hi, all!

Tess and Gideon have been making a LOT of progress over the last couple weeks, and are getting pretty good at coexisting in their neighbouring cages now! I’ve started doing bunny dates with them, and there’s been no fighting at all, but there are some points where I wonder if I should call off the date. It usually goes like this: Tes…[Read more]

I think you should start by calling the vet that did the spay. If they think its cause for concern they might want you to come in. Is she getting a painkiller? A bun should preferably get meloxicam (various brand names such as Metacam, Loxicom, Rheumocam) for 5 days after a spay.

Hello! I’m sorry but I’m kinda panicking a little 😭

So I spayed my dear bunny yesterday, been around 30 hours since her procedure and she started eating and pooping around 13 hours after procedure (I fed her critical care/water with a syringe until she started to accept hay)

her poop was small but looked acceptable then returned to normal aro…[Read more]

I’m very sorry for your loss. 🙁

I think if you are able to bring the body home, it won’t hurt, and could possibly help. It is good that she’s doing OK now, but I have noticed sometimes rabbits take a little time to show their grief (or get more confused over time by their missing partner). It’s also possible she knew he was very sick and already…[Read more]

    Hello,

My 5 year old Holland Lop died very suddenly at an emergency vet last night. Last Monday he showed signs of GI Stasis and was rushed to emergency. He was treated and appeared to be on the mend. However Saturday his health declined again and he was back at the vet in the morning. He passed away Sunday night.

My question is regarding his…[Read more]

Thanks @Ellie from the Netherlands. I think they are slowly working things out. They are oddly not super territorial, the issues are around who is going to groom who. Other than that they share food, share toys and bedding and they are in semi-neutral territory as they are both butts about being picked up to go the bathroom (my only truly neutral…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for your loss, even more so with both so close together. As Bam said, it sounds like he may have had true bloat, which is very often fatal, and can occur without any warning.

    Again I’m so sorry 🙁

I’m so very sorry about Ben. It’s not fully known what causes bloat. It wasn’t your fault. If a rabbit eats too many pellets and too little hay, the result is as a rule obesity and sticky poop, not bloat. Bloat is thankfully not common, the prognosis is very poor. He could have had something wrong with his intestines that just prevented the…[Read more]

Unfortunately, Ben passed away last night. I held him almost the entire day on a cushion with a hot water bottle, stroking him, intermittently massaging him but he lost the fight. We are very sad, of course and I just feel like a failure. I lost both my bunnies in the space of 5 weeks and had them for 6 years. So, I don’t know what I did wrong,…[Read more]

The link works for me too! They were such a gorgeous couple! Those lionheads sure do know they are beautiful!

It’s so crazy, your account of trying to re-bond Glenn sounds so much like when I tried to rebond Bertha after Bunston died. We had a string of bad luck (involving a foster that got very sick, and then another broken bond with another…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic First Time Bonding Confusion in the forum BONDING 4 years, 5 months ago

Mounting is really normal during bonding sessions, especially in the early stages. 🙂

If it doesn’t cause fighting, then allow it to happen. If Mochie mounts Beanie’s face, then spin Mochie around so he is in the “correct” position. If Beanie runs away, stop Mochie from chasing after a couple seconds.

After more time in the bonding sessions, the…[Read more]

Hmmm, I think you should talk to the rescue about it. Since he is a foster to adopt, there may be another rabbit that would be an easier match with Dottie. But if you are already very attached to him and would like to give it a real attempt, I would talk to the rescue and see if they will give you more time.

Also if needed, you could maybe just…[Read more]

I’m very sorry, how awful 🙁

In some cases, syringe feeding is used to push the blockage through, but it depends on whether it is partial or complete, and where it is. Since the vet told you to syringe feed, I would focus on giving small amounts of very liquidy CC. Hydration can also help break up the mass in the gut. The 1 mL syringes work well…[Read more]
