If mama is taking care of them, then you don’t need to do much except making sure she has enough to eat. She should be getting extra protein too (alfalfa). The link Wick provided has lots of good info about baby bunnies and how they grow.

Hey all! I was tapped as an emergency foster tonight for 2 mama bunnies and 16 babies (each has 8). They look like rex mixes. I have NO baby bunny experience besides my 2 geriatric bunnies that I’ve had since they were young. One set looks like they are a week old and the other set are hopping around and eating hay and pellets. They are currently…[Read more]

Tried overnighting in a completely new area (to the young ones). Small pen size but the room is large. NewBoyBun thumping all night running with his head cutoff like the first night he he was brought home. Put them in the dark carrier and life’s all good 🙄

Well it sounds like you’re onto something at least. I agree. Vets will often prescribe an antibiotic without extensive tests.

It is difficult to care for elder buns, lots of stuff that wouldn’t be a problem for younger buns can be a very big deal for an elderbun. 14 is an admirable age, and it of course means he’s more susceptible to just about everything.
I dont know how your vet does things, but it’d be good if you could discuss with them. Maybe they’d prescribe a…[Read more]

Thank you.
I noticed all buns are suddenly lightly sneezing after Elder Bun started his squeak. So maybe the squeak from Elder Bun is related since he isn’t sneezing per se but makes the motions and his nose is wet.
*sighs* going to the vet every month these days…

Bunnies can be so stubborn sometimes! I think it sounds like there is definitely potential there, though.
Do your buns have stuffed animals? Sometimes I’ve found that if I rub a stuffed animal on one bunny, then give it to the other, they will groom the stuffie. To me, this helps simulate grooming each other so that when they are actually…[Read more]

Shanni, I’m very sorry you and Angel lost Sasha.
This thread is very old (2011), we ask our members to rather start new threads than revive old threads, because knowledge and science and medical care regarding rabbits is so rapidly evolving. I’m not at all up to date on rabbit + rat bonds, but I think it’s lovely that Sasha and Angel found each…[Read more]

People telling you to keep them away from each other are wrong. Any animal has potential to bond with another animal, my pet rat Sasha bonded with my rabbit Angel. I just had to put Sasha down, and right now Angel is grieving so badly I’m not sure he will survive. I’m currently working on bonding him with my other girl Luna (pet rat) and things…[Read more]

I assume your vet has listened to his lungs.
One of my buns got pneumonia. He made a squeaky/quacky sound when he was excited, esp for food. He was old and had never been a vocal bun at all. He had chest x-rays (no sedation needed bc the vet was very good with rabbits), the x rays showed he had (a rather mild case of) pneumonia. He got two weeks…[Read more]

Hi! I need some bonding advice. I have been bonding two bunnies for about two month but I’m not sure much progress has been made.
I am bonding a holland lop boy, floppy (free roam house bunny) and a lionhead girl, audrey (adopted from a rescue, was probably abandoned), both fixed and between 1-2 year old.
They currently live in side-by-side x p…[Read more]

My bun is a higher pitched grunter. He sounds like a little pig. He will let out a grunt when he’s very displeased… like if I’m picking him up.
Perhaps, in your bunny’s old age, he has decided to be more vocal about his displeasure. If he has arthritis, it may be painful when he is picked up.

My 14yo boy started making occasional noise. First time was when he was brought out of the carrier at the vet. It was a singular deep honk; he made it like 3 times during the visit and my vet attributed it to him not liking being touched in a dime sized area where his friend had barbered him. Nothing happened for over a month.
Now I hear it when…[Read more]

That will happen sometimes. His hormones will settle though, so yeah, just go back to litter training 101 for a while.

Just a quick update: Arthas has fully recovered from his neuter and is back to his old bouncy, happy self. 🙂 It took about a week, but he is doing great now!
I think, though, we are going to have to basically go over litter box training with him again lol. He will use his box sometimes, but has decided its more fun to go on the floor and any…[Read more]

He likely damaged the nail bed when he got it caught. Do not be surprised if the nail falls off after it has healed a bit. This often happens when the nail is damaged. The “dead” portion will eventually fall off and you may only have a little nub left.
Nail injuries can bleed A LOT. I’m talking murder scene. But they rarely result in anything…[Read more]

Forgive me if I am wrong but didn’t think the template was necessary.
My bunny, Maxwell, was let out of his pen for roaming around the kitchen. He went behind a chair, presumably got caught on something, and when he came out began grooming his paw. He then proceeded to go back into his pen and continue grooming it. While walking, he put weight on…[Read more]

We’re not vets, so we can’t advise you on using medications off label to treat your bunny on your own. There are a lot of medications available at farm supply stores that are not suitable for bunnies or, since they are concentrated for horses, can be difficult to get the dosage right.
Yes, dental issues can cause a nasal discharge. Typically what…[Read more]

Right or wrong, I keep all buns’ old meds in the first aid kit, even if it’s expired. Every few years I go and purge the excessively expired ones.
I, uhhh, eat a lot of talenti :). So, I have a container for each of their treats, one for syringes (open container), one for their grooming supplies (open container), one for each kind of pellet, one…[Read more]
