mikata started the topic Bulgy Eye On My Rabbit in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 4 months ago

My first time posting here! My 1 year old male rabbit has a bit of a bulgy eye it’s not too big but you can feel it’s bigger than the other eye. He’s not acting any different than before and is eating and pooping normally. Should I take him to the vet? I’ve  never taken him to one and he’s not neutered yet. Someone give me some advice thanks !

Thank you so much for the reply! I was also thinking it’s all hormonal based and I feel like he has good and bad days! I’m guessing from the hormone fluctuation. I also read that some bunnies take up to 6 weeks to a month to get back to normal!

I agree with Dana, a resting bun will produce fewer and smaller poop than an active bun, and a bun’s activity level various over the day. Buns normally rest during daytime and are active late in the evenings and in the mornings.

If she’s producing a normal amount of poop per day you dont need to do anything. If you feel you want to reduce amount…[Read more]

    Apollo, Apollo, Apollo!

One of the animal rescues nearby recently got in about 100 buns from only 2 separate owners. I think 70 of them were from one location and they came from 2 intact buns within 4 months!! Which is just crazy. Keep in mind that’s 100 rabbits just in BEFORE Easter. I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like after. If we…[Read more]

It probably is just swinging hormones, I wouldn’t be too worried about it just yet. I actually read about one rabbit on another forum that took 6 months for her hormonal problems to resolve after she was spayed. While that is an unusual example, for some it can take longer than others. Also assuming your rabbit is young, many young rabbits do go…[Read more]

Bunny poops are really closely linked to how much hay they are eating, so yes they could get smaller after she’s been sleeping for a while. My buns often have smaller poops in the afternoon after they’ve been snoozing all day. 🙂

she molted recently, but that stopped around 2 or 3 weeks ago. yesterday i noticed that after she woke up from her nap she went straight to the litterbox and all of her poop was small, but then just a little while later after she had been up and running around it was all bigger. could her gut be slowing down during the day while she’s sleeping?

Is she molting right now? Lots of buns start having some weird poops during molting. Usually smaller ones mixed in means a bit of gastric slowing, so pushing extra hay and hydration should help pass the fur through.

If he is still pooping and eating a bit, I agree with Bam that giving some watered down critical care, plain water, or hay tea would be better than pedialyte. There are also some rabbit-specific oral fluids available now that you might look into to have on hand.

Giving a small amount of oral fluids or offering a pile of wet salad greens is often…[Read more]

Aww glad it went OK! Bun Jovi is also “a handful” at the vets, I’m sure they will be back to normal soon!

It’s not in all hotots, but it’s a condition linked to the “charlie” markings.  “Free-fed” refers to being fed unlimited pellets, to help compensate for the weight loss that can occur. In megacolon rabbits the cecum doesn’t function properly, so they have trouble absorbing nutrients.

This site has a ton of helpful info, that also might help you…[Read more]

I use Nationwide. As far as I know, as stated by @wick & Fable, they are the only insurance company with an exotics plan. I have only used it once (for tooth dremmeling; the deductible for each filed claim is $50 and the amount they gave for the procedure I filed for was $50 so I broke even on that one lol). I have another claim currently pending…[Read more]

@azerane and @Bam thank you for reading! I feel like I always get the oddball situations so researching for this situation was VERY difficult, but I am glad that I was able to get some answers, make some moves and see improvements for Olivia.

Thanks for removing the source code!

It seems you are making progress 😀

I think Nellie is an adorable name for her! She could of course be officially called Penelope, possibly with a title such as Countess Penelope or The Honorable Lady Penelope, since all buns are nobility, but be known as Nellie for everyday purposes.

Unflavored pedialyte can be given to rabbits, but since it has simple sugars it should be a lot more diluted than for a human or it can cause gastric upset (overgrowth of the “wrong” bacteria in the cecum). I think I’d rather give very runny Critical Care or similar recovery formula. You can also syringe some plain water, not ice cold.

    Treating…[Read more]
