Oooh thanks! That Tyvelse one looks gorgeous, I wonder if it’s available in the US?
And I actually have a few of those Toftlund rugs already! Myra would just avoids them, LOL! What is up with buns just avoiding all the soft things we put down for them? I swear my buns run in the gaps between the rugs.

I’ve never had a guinea pig, but cages are only appropriate for rabbits as a “home base”. They need a lot of room to run and play and shouldn’t be confined in small spaces. Putting a large cage in an ex pen and allowing the bunny out for multiple hours each day for play time is acceptable as long as the rabbit isn’t locked in the cage and has…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Original rabbit aggressive when bonding? in the forum BONDING 4 years, 4 months ago
Personally, my next steps would be to try a car ride and/or a very large bonding area. For car rides, have someone else drive, get the car running and ready. I like to use a large plastic tub, rather than a carrier. Have you leather gloves on, pop the buns in the bin, and go for a drive. Most buns will not fight in the car, but sit in the back…[Read more]

I agree with a litter box screen! and I put a hay layer on top of that.

I agree on no alfalfa. But I think offering a variety of different grass hays would be great, and oat hay is great. My buns looooove the oat hay from BB. It’s my go-too whenever I want a bun to eat more hay, I give them a few handfuls a day when I have it. And I think giving fresh grass is also fine and good to do. Other really fibrous herbs are…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Housing in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 4 months ago
As others have said, it could work depending on the size. It could also be expanded by adding more grids (I have cube-grid pens for my buns). Some buns will chew that corrugated plastic material, others leave it alone. You can put some paper or cardboard over it temporarily to give the bun a safe surface to chew on.
Buns also need flooring that…[Read more]

I’m wondering what all i need to know about setting up a cage for a rabbit. I have two guinea pigs and I use wood shavings or fleece liners for bedding and I put boxes and stuff for them to chew on and play in. I also cut fresh grass for them from outside like Timothy grass, dandelions, wild carrots, and other types of grass/leaves im familiar…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Emergency care kit for rough molts in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 4 months ago
I think a big thing to have on hand is sub-cutaneous fluids. You can ask you vet to show you how to do it and have them give you a bag. Myra used to have a lot more trouble with her molts, and would often perk up after sub cutaneous fluids. Dehydration is a huge contributor to stasis but is not always the first thing we think of.
Simethicone…[Read more]

Poor Apollo! That video is interesting… I agree a teeth check would be a good first step, keep us posted!

I have a few thoughts and I’m sure the members with more extensive rabbit experience will have great advice too. Firstly, no alfalfa. It’s fine for baby bunnies but not adults. It has too much protein and is a legume. She needs grass hay. That said, I don’t think a handful of grass a day is harmful. In the wild they would be eating more fresh…[Read more]

Hey.
I just have a couple questions regarding enriching Nellies diet with food that is helpful for digestion and high fiber intake.
Nellie had another GI slow down today but recovered on her own with no intervention, it seems that it happened early hours of the morning while we were sleeping but she gained her appetite back an hour after being…[Read more]

I have had this problem before too. About a year or so ago we bought a giant 10 kg bag of selective pellets and a few months down the line found the same issue and had to throw it all away.
I can’t remember the name of these insects but they are common pantry pests that breed like crazy and can infest your human food too if not caught quickly.…[Read more]

Aww poor Apollo. He’s such a cutie in that video by the way.
Nellie recently had a dental and Glenn had a dental about a year ago and if I am being honest neither of them displayed the symptoms that Apollo is showing in the vid, except for drooling, I agree that drooling is pretty characteristic of dental problems. The last time I was at the vet…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Dental Problems in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 4 months ago
I would feed singular pellets at a time — he may be going in with the healthy teeth gusto but his bite actually isn’t matching so he suffers as a result. For example, Fable vacuums up several pellets at a time, similar to what he did in the video, before/while fully chewing and swallowing. In contrast, Wick with his malocclusion only eats pellets…[Read more]

I tried to salvage the video from your link, but it was audio-only, sorry!
If you suspect the bag was contaminated when you purchased it, I’d take photos and contact customer service for a refund. I would not continue feeding any pellets from this bag.

Thankyou, I’m eagerly awaiting the chance to ring the vet tomorrow morning. I’ve just fed their evening pellets and he had a really bad pain response tonight (after none last night).
I recorded a video and uploaded it as an unlisted youtube video so I could share it with you (it was too big for me to upload direct to BB). The part that confuses…[Read more]

That’s great! Hopefully you’ll never need a vet in the middle of the night, but it’s really that there is one!
Gas pain can be symptomatic from one hour to the next.
One very important home remedy is to make the bun move around. Dont let it go into hiding, thinking that things will be better with a bit of rest. Block off access to any hiding…[Read more]

Min-Min throws himself into his flops. Sometimes he throws himself so hard he rolls 360 degrees (back onto his paws) . Then he seems stunned and offended he rolled all the way over (he wanted to either perfectly land on his back (180 degrees) or go slightly over where his paws flare out to almost bring him back to his feet but not quite (270 degrees).
