We have two bonded rabbits and a custom cage I built that’s just big enough for the rabbits to play chase. It’s 6 rabbit lengths long and 5 rabbit lengths wide, so pretty decent. It’s also plenty high too. We give them good food and occasionally bananas and veggies.
My girlfriend goes on tiktok to see that other rabbit owners have some bigge…[Read more]

They have. No spurs or anything. He did have a very slight UTI before this happened but it cleared up quickly. So I’m not sure if that could have set this off.
I dropped Spud off early this morning and got a text a few minutes ago saying he perked up a lot when Spud got there and was now slowly eating a piece of basil and he isn’t fighting the…[Read more]

Hello, I have an 8 year old lionhead that’s been having trouble breathing recently.
–Maintenance and Housing–
My rabbit lives indoors, not around any other buns and hasn’t been outside or in contact with other bunnies recently. He free roams my room which is pretty large, separated by a height difference so he pretty much has half all to…[Read more]

Thanks everyone for the advice! Everyone is super helpful and this has given me lots of ideas of how to improve her digestive health.
Thanks for clarifying alfalfa, I didn’t actually realise it was a legume, I have never really had experience with alfalfa so wasn’t really sure how much of a strict no it was. – Based off what people have said…[Read more]

Oh, wow! This is certainly interesting. It perfectly fits with swallowing pain, so hopefully the meds will fix it!

The vet thinks I have very interesting rabbits, which after today I definitely agree with.
Apollo’s x-ray was completely normal, his teeth are normal. He has small white bumps with some inflammation on one side of his larynx. She’s not sure what they are but we’re treating with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories in hope that it’s a simple…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Are perfumes/lotions dangerous for rabbits? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 4 months ago
Scented things like soaps, lotions, and even most perfumes are not going to cause an issue. The only thing to be really worried about is essential oils. And even then, it’s long-term exposure that causes the problem.

Sonn replied to the topic Tater and Spud in the forum THE LOUNGE 4 years, 4 months ago
They are still running tests. So far all of his blood tests etc are normal but his xrays still show a ton of gas buildup. He seemingly came out of it 2 days after being admitted but that night it was like it started all over again.
I will ask his vet if I can bring Spud to stay with him.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through this, a week is a very long time to be at the vet for GI stasis and to be separated from the bonded buddy. I’d definitely ask the vet about Spud potentially staying at the vet with him, it will probably help his mood and feel safer, could lead to a better recovery.
Do they know the underlying cause of…[Read more]

I haven’t updated in a long long time. School has been kicking my behind. I am not sure why I thought it was a good idea to go back at 37 years old. But I’m freaking out a bit. I wanted to come back with a happy update but I need support from other bunny people. Tater has been at the vets office for nearly a week for GI Stasis. He’s still holding…[Read more]

Essential oils and scent diffusers are consider dangerous/toxic. I wouldn’t consider body wash/soaps to be a problem because as you said, you apply them and then are rinsing them off. I probably wouldn’t apply perfume right before interaction, and I wouldn’t let them lick an area where perfume was applied or recently applied hand lotion etc.

Hi everyone! I was wondering if it’s dangerous to wear scented lotion/perfume around my rabbit. I never spray any products in the room that my rabbit is in, but I use scented products (shampoo, body wash, perfume, lotion, hair products, etc.) in my bathroom next door and then interact with my rabbit after. I always wash my hands prior to petting h…[Read more]

Azerane replied to the topic How to set up a rabbit cage in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 4 months ago
In addition to the great advice above, be sure that your rabbit’s set up is tall enough to keep them contained. Some rabbits are big jumpers, others aren’t. My current pair I can keep contained with a 60cm pen if needed (though 80cm is probably a good minimum), my previous rabbit could jump over a 110cm pen.
I think rabbits tend to be more…[Read more]

Thank you everyone for your feedback on the video. Ulcers could be an option, I had some people on facebook say it looked like a mild choking episode (mild because he wasn’t panicking or tilting his head up for breathing).
By some sort of miracle they were able to fit us in this morning at the vet. I showed her the video, nothing obvious in the…[Read more]

Pantry moths! Also called meal moths because they infest stuff like cornmeal. They are tiny (8mm long) and they lay their eggs in starchy food stuffs. The mature larva produce silk, which is usually what people notice in the food. I would throw out the food and replace it. They could spread to other places in the house (people food) too.

Yes, there is no harm is feeding a bit of fresh grass. If you don’t have a good source year round, you could always grow your own. Wheatgrass is popular and easy to grow indoors. It’s often marketed as “cat grass”.
Offering a variety of hay is a good way to encourage hay eating. You can mix in some hay toppers to help entice your bunny. Toppers…[Read more]

The Oxbow supplement is a cookie/biscuit… which might be more appealing since I’m sure they taste more like pellets. I’m glad we were able to alleviate some of your worries and that you found a closer vet to use for emergencies.
