Thank you both for your comments. He’s not 100% free roam. He goes in a pen at night and lately has only been allowed out for 3-4 hours a day cause he’s so destructive. But of course he’ll throw temper tantrums if he’s been in his pen too long.

I’ve tried all of those toys, he can really tear through those cardboard cat scratchers, I think I b…[Read more]

I might be able to do a bathroom. The issue is my bathroom is attached to my room and while Kyoshi was not allowed in there but every once in a while she sneaks in with me when I go in. I can ask for my roommates bathroom but I’m not sure they would be okay with using it for bonding. The issue with the kitchen is it is not very big and there is an…[Read more]

    Ah, I understand!

What about using a bathroom or kitchen for bonding? Bathrooms or bathtubs tend to work well because they are easy to clean and most buns don’t spend a lot of time there, and it would be easy enough to keep the dog out of there while you were working with them.

I think the basement set up sounds find for temporary housing, and I…[Read more]

Hi, sorry for the confusion. I meant the same large pen, each on their own side not together. My biggest concern is that if one is out and one is in the pen they will get jealous of each other.

Kyoshi gets very frustrated very quickly. She also gets extremely cage aggressive. To the point where putting her food down leads to biting and lunging at…[Read more]

Many rabbits are not good candidates for free-roam, especially when young! I know that many prominent social media folks have been promoting free-roam as the “only” way to have a happy rabbit, but this just isn’t the case.

Before resorting to rehoming, I recommend getting a pen set-up for your bun, and switch to only doing supervised exercise…[Read more]

I can understand why you are so stressed, rabbits can be a lot, especially in the teenage age bracket they are really full-on exploring everything, digging and chewing everything.

For now one thing I might suggest trying is to get a puppy playpen or exercise pen, make sure it’s fairly tall probably 100cm because at his age he’s probably likely to…[Read more]

I’ve never rehomed an animal. I’ve had multiple dogs and hamsters throughout my life, but this is my first bunny. I love him and he has his sweet moments, but my life revolves around him and not in a good way.

He’s 8 months old and was neutered two months ago. He’s litter box trained but recently started marking and pooping an insane amount.…[Read more]

Yes, Benadryl can be given. Typical dosage is 2mg/kg. People tend to use the children’s formula since syrups are easier to deal with. Chlorphenamine maleate can also be used in rabbits, but it’s a little harder to find (especially in syrup form). I’m not sure what the recommended dosage is for that, I would have to see if I can find it.

I went to an exotic animal vet. Only one that could see him on such short notice, but they should know what they’re doing with rabbits. Because of the short notice they had to see him between scheduled procedures, so there wasn’t much talk of medication, just confirmation that he is not sick and doesn’t need antibiotics or anything. So I apricate…[Read more]

Yes the variance in dosage between species is huge.

I was fortunate this morning to have the idea of trying Apollo’s metacam in a lettuce leaf (after another stressful dosage debacle last night). He was a little wary at first but eventually decided it was worth eating. Fortunately it didn’t drip off the leaf and I may have to try his antibiotics…[Read more]

It’s amazing how much more meloxicam a rabbit needs compared to a dog! My Vilde was tiny (1.5 kg) and was prescribed almost as much meloxicam as a 10 kg dog.

Nowadays vets in general seem to know this, but back when my Yohio were neutered he got cat meloxicam, which is only 0.5 mg/ml. I remember the dose, 12 drops which is next to nothing for a…[Read more]

Welcome to BB! It’s really great you are planning ahead!

I have a couple suggestions. 🙂  First, I would not use your room for bonding sessions. No matter how much you clean it, it won’t be neutral enough as a starting point, especially since Kyoshi has had free roam of the room. Is there anyway you can set up temporary pens in your room? What…[Read more]

So, you’ve been at it a long time! But you do have a good amount of positive behaviors, so I think they are just being stubborn, as buns tend to do!

At this point when there is some stagnation I think it can be helpful to push for some longer sessions, like 4-6 hours, or even 8. You may even wait until you have a few days you can take off work…[Read more]

It’s been quite a while since I started bonding. 2 boys, brothers, neutered around 10 months ago. I’ve been bonding them almost daily since January.

I try to follow the same routine usually. We start with a short session, take them for a car ride around the neighborhood, and then give them a couple of hours together. They bond in my kitchen,…[Read more]

Is your vet rabbit savvy? Rabbits hide symptoms, especially when stressed.

    Hi!

I am completely new to Rabbit bonding and I want to be as prepared as I can be before I start the process. This weekend I am planning to start the side by side living. I want to give them at least 3-4 weeks of side by side with swapping of the pens to help them get used to each other scent before even starting face to face. My problem is the…[Read more]

Was there any discussion on allergy medications? I have used Children’s Benadryl on one of my rabbits with potentially-placebo-effect benefits. Regardless, no harm was done in trying it out: https://binkybunny.com/forums/topic/childrens-benadryl-tx/

    Update for anyone interested:
Took him to the vet early this morning as he was still having trouble. Turns out to in fact be allergies. He didn’t have any breathing trouble while there and is healthy, breathing fine with healthy lungs and no other issues. He’s in good health for his age and is now resting after getting back.
    Past fire season…[Read more]
