Awesome, thank you! I’ll look into that.

Fleece usually works pretty well for this. Soft, but not too slick.

To give a little background, my bunny is almost 9 years old. I live in an apartment and my floor is carpeted. I wanted to make him free range, but I have a lot of tech in my apartment, so that’s not possible. Therefore, I did the next best thing. I gave him 2/3 of my bedroom, including full access to my bed area. The carpet is somewhat rough, and…[Read more]

I would be concerned about the weight loss while she is still growing, and a loss of 400g is quite a large amount. Unlimited pellets until at least 6 months I would think, though as long as it wasn’t preventing her from eating hay you could keep them unlimited until 1 year because she is a giant breed.

Thanks for getting back so quick Dana!

How long should she be on unlimited pellets for would you say? I top up her bowl anytime I see it close to emptying so I don’t really understand why she’s losing weight but she’s got another appointment on Saturday so fingers crossed her weights up!

I think I read somewhere they can keep growing up to 18 mo…[Read more]

I think they meant to say can’t burp. My rabbit was visibly uncomfortable once and refusing to eat but after a dose of simethicone he was fine. I so think it works if the problem is gas.

    Aww congrats!

She should be getting unlimited junior pellets at this point, so if not then that’s an easy thing to change and will probably solve the issue!

I think with larger breeds many vets like to wait until the bun reaches their adult size just so their skeleton develops properly, so for a giant I think that could be 6-8 months? I need to…[Read more]

My bun has chronic dysbiosis and I help him keep his weight up and keep him interested in his food with pellets that have Timothy hay as the only ingredient. He gets them from exotix nutrition. There are probably other brands but it’s tough to find hay only with no other ingredients if other pellets don’t work for your rabbit. On the advice of his…[Read more]

I think you are being MUCH too hard on yourself!

To answer your questions at the bottom, if you need to give her meds, groom her, syringe feed her, etc., yes it’s important to be able to pick her up. She won’t be happy with you at the moment, but she will forgive you. Bunnies are more resilient than we give them credit for. Have your vet show you…[Read more]

    Hi all!

but I’ve stumbled across my first dilemma and literally in tears writing this 🙁

Sometimes new, shy buns don’t like being watched too closely (as prey animals). I’m glad she finally ate though! I think as she gets more comfortable she’ll prob start eating better, but for now I would try not to hover too much.

At 4 months she’s also young and veggies are pretty new to her, so be sure not to introduce too many new foods at once.

DanaNM replied to the topic Struggling to chew hay in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 4 months ago

It does sound like she probably has a dental issue, so I would do the follow up appointment with the sedation. They do very light sedation for dental exams, so it’s very quick and safe.

Rabbits have 24 molars in that tiny mouth, and a spur on the back one can cause enough pain to cause a bun to stop eating.

Often the only symptom of a dental…[Read more]

A few days my rabbit started to struggle to eat – it was very sudden as she was eating her dinner the day fore bine fine but struggled to chew her breakfast pellets. Her overall demeanour was pretty normal, alert and playful as usual. But whenever she tried to eat pellets or hay – she would take ages, slowly shake her head from one side to the…[Read more]

Was Tess spayed before or after the false pregnancy?? Or not at all?

If not, that changes all of the advice I gave in your bonding thread! I’ve never heard of a spayed bun going through a false pregnancy, so I would talk to your vet a bit more and see if you can find the records of her spay.

Having another bun in the house can definitely upset…[Read more]

Excellent! I hope Luci finds a good match! Keep in mind she may not behave normally due to the drive. Letting her chill out in the carrier for  ~ 30 min before the first date should help a bit too. In speed dates, I usually am just looking to make sure they don’t HATE each other.

If in doubt, pick the bun that YOU like the most. It’s going to be…[Read more]

Nice to see you back!  And congrats on the new bun!

So if I read this correctly, Gideon is getting a long with both girls, and is still fully bonded to Tess, who he was bonded with before? And Penelope and Tess are not quite there yet? Sounds familiar! haha :p

You have two options for how to proceed. You could work with all three together (and…[Read more]

Hi all! It’s been a heck of a long time!!

SO I’ve recently adopted a 4 month old-ish conti giant girl, I’ve already had multiple trips to the vets with her as I suspect she was rather neglected from birth but at her last appointment I was told she’s losing weight and has gone from 2.2kg to 1.8kg. She practically inhales all her pellets and eats…[Read more]

Thank you for all the tips!

Unfortunately our bun went into stasis on Monday. It happened out of nowhere. We tried everything but had to take her to an emergency vet. She was give fluids along with medication and we were sent home with her. The vet said it was caused by her ingesting a lot of hair due to shedding. We were given a couple of hours…[Read more]
