Not the best way to grab/restrain a rabbit, but I doubt any damage was done. Their skin is pretty loose and it doesn’t sound like his full weight was being held by his skin.

so it was going good all week, the two lay next to each other and relax all day long…no signs of any agression. I took this as a sign everything was all good and I started the bonding face to face. I started off in a small neutral box and boom fighting. I got bit pretty bad and ended up stopping the session because I was hurt. All the agression…[Read more]

I had a rat we raised from a pinky live to almost five.
I bond immediately, which is why I grabbed him away from the stupid kid that brought him to school to do God knows what.

We have a Senegal that is completely bald on her entire chest/belly.
Her previous home only fed her sunflower seeds, smoked and two of the people apparently didn’t like her (she’s a very nice little bird) and yelled at her a lot.

It’s hard to make any judgments based on a description, but objectively no, there shouldn’t be a need to grab “the skin” of a rabbit to restrain them — you do a proper hold. If the area appears to be swelling, flinches in pain, etc., those would be concerning signs I’d think of. Skin has a decent amount of give (e.g., you can probably grab some…[Read more]

It’s not very likely that your bun suffered any injury from being grabbed. A rabbit’s skin is loose over the muscles, which is why it’s so easy to give rabbits sub q fluids. He didn’t hang in the air. That the vet got her hand full of fur could be due to stress shedding – animals often shed hair during vet visits, from the stress of being in a…[Read more]

I wish they made more rabbit toys 🙁 My rabbit loves toilet paper tubes stuffed in a tissue box with treats in it! You could also try baby stacking cups, key rings, and dog puzzle toys? Cat scratchers also work well! My rabbit also loves children’s ball pits, or you could make a dig box with paper (don’t use plastic) Easter grass!

I took my rabbit to the vet for a regular check up. The vet grabbed my mini rex by the skin on his side. She got a hold of a chunk of his fur/skin and restrained him this way until she was able to wrap him in a towel. I need to know if this would have done any muscle or tissue damage? He was on the counter while she held him this way, she wasn’t h…[Read more]

I would not add pineapple juice to the water, unless it is in very, very small quantities and your rabbit is unwilling to hydrate herself without it. There is debate over the use of pineapple and papaya in helping rabbits in various GI distress situations that you can read about here:…[Read more]

She had some gas and lingual points on her teeth. The vet clipped the points off of her teeth and said she should be fine and to watch her, but the gas isn’t very much and should pass with the help of some natural pineapple juice in water. The vet said her eating fewer pellets can be because of Roo and I should feed them away from each other.…[Read more]

If he was recently neutered (i.e., within the past month), it could be the post-neuter craze which just needs time to simmer itself down. Alternatively, it could be he was neutered and he actually still has a testicle or testicle matter causing the hormonal behavior. My rescue very recently discovered one of our rabbits who was indeed neutered had…[Read more]

A picture of the set-up may be helpful to see. In general, regardless of cause, if the high-lip is causing issues, I’d get something lower so it’s easier. Also make sure that the flooring both in and out of the cage is rabbit-appropriate (i.e., not slippy) to maximize movement/jump ease.
Was the local vet rabbit-experienced? Was an x-ray taken?…[Read more]

Blossom and Thumper’s gotcha day is today! Here’s some pictures from last night, the finished product and a picture 10 minutes after I gave them the finished product! I almost forgot to mention that I got the forage mix from The Natural Cavy on etsy.com. And sorry about the litterboxes, I haven’t had time to clean them yet.
