DanaNM replied to the topic Re-bonding 2 girls after emergency vet visit fallout in the forum BONDING 4 years, 2 months ago

    Oh poor Frida!

I actually think you should pause all bonding until she is totally well again. Her health issues could actually be why she has been so fearful. Buns that are in pain or ill will not bond fully, or there can be a false hierarchy that forms and breaks later.

DanaNM replied to the topic Bickering or bonded in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 2 months ago

I recommend separating them now, getting them neutered, and then rebonding them as Wick described. The chances are very high that they will fight again, and they may hurt each other badly. Any additional fighting will also make it difficult to rebond them.

At 4 months old their hormones are just coming in, which is why they just started fighting.…[Read more]

Do you trust your vet? I’m a little surprised that they haven’t had her on motility and pain meds with how severe her case has been.

It might be worth getting a second opinion if you have doubts and have other options in your area. Some of the things your vet has said raised my eyebrows a bit (like “intervene as little as possible”).

    As far as…[Read more]

So, you may not need to do a preventative for mites unless it’s a recurring problem. I’m not as familiar with ivermectin usage but I know Revolution is a derivative of it.

One tip for making Revolution more cost effective is to ask your vet if they can sell you the vials for dogs and give you the appropriate dosing instructions. Basically you can…[Read more]

I agree with Wick, this looks like an abscess or other serious concern that needs vet attention ASAP.

He’s doing fine! Our vet appointment is Friday but he’s basically been the same. His leg weakness has been a bit better the last few days, which has been good.

Ah hah! Hopefully that will help him a lot!

If it’s the usual vet’s office and they do lots of rabbit dentals, I wouldn’t worry. Since the head vet will be there, I am assuming it will the same technicians and anesthesiologist which is important (you could ask about this if you are unsure). A quick bur of one molar will be a very quick procedure…[Read more]

I think it’s good the vet is going to take a look, but I’m glad he still seems in good spirits.

I’ve seen some disabled bun set-ups where they put a lot of bolsters around the pen so the bun has something to lean on for balance. If Bun Jovi didn’t have Myra to lean on and help him keep clean I’m sure he would need something like that, because he…[Read more]

Hi, I have 4 bunnies. Last year, I had a horrible ear mite reaction in one of my boys- he’s white and I’m guessing is allergic because he very suddenly had huge scabs in his ears and was in extreme distress clawing in his ears within 24 hours. He got Revolution at the vet, but needed several followup appointments because the infection that…[Read more]

So, it’s great that he’s showing so much appetite and affection.  And he’s still quite feisty — when he falls over and realizes he can’t get up, often the first thing he’ll do is emphatically start tossing or chewing on whatever hay might be within reach.

How funny! It’s those little glimpse of bunnitude that make it a tad easier when they’re d…[Read more]

They didn’t do a dental x-ray. They keep saying nothing look out of place. Should I request for one? The thing is, Kotton can eat stalks, she just only eats alfafa stalks, and once in awhile (though she used to love oat hay) an oat stalk. She still likes the very hard oat pieces in oat hay. And when her appetite is there, she eats pellets ok but…[Read more]

LBJ10 – What would usually be the routine for long stasis recovery? I read from another thread in this forum long time ago, that bun requires long term meds cocktails and critical care to get better but would need to be very slowly wane off the meds. Our Vet does not like us to use meds if possible, and told us to intervene only when necessary…[Read more]

Oh, Im really sorry for the loss of  your dog. Losing any pet is hard but when it’s your first, it can be heartbreaking.

The bunny is looking great and appears to be still allowing you to interact but sounds like she has good dose of sassiness. Typical for a lot of rabbits!

Suprise suprise! He has a tinie tiny little spur, the vet initially didn’t think it was a concern because there was no lesions but I took him in again today as his hay eating was still not where it should be and I noticed hes more active on pain meds.

We done a very thorough dental exam that revealed the small spur was putting a little pressure…[Read more]

I’m glad to hear he’s eating better!

As for the arm sticking out, could he have dislocated his shoulder? You could try to gently gently near the arm to his side while he is sitting still. Stabilize the shoulderblade with your other fingers at the same time -ever so gently, of course. If its a dislocated shoulder, this could help reposition it. Be…[Read more]

They are 2 does and are approxiamately 4 months old now, and no not neutered. They have since been absolutely perfect with each other, lying flat out asleep, back legs out and head on top of each other day in day out so I’m hoping this was just a quibble.

Hi there!  So the good news is Teddy’s still been eating quite well (if anything, more robustly than he had been before this issue started).  But unfortunately he’s still having significant challenges with his legs, and we’re going to bring him to the vet soon.  (We have an appointment for Thursday evening, but are going to call and see if th…[Read more]

How is Bun Jovi doing?  I’m sorry I missed this thread earlier.  Teddy is about to go to the vet too and I’m grateful we can compare notes.  I hope Bun Jovi is doing OK, and am sending you both hugs!
