I’m glad you took him in and he’s doing better!

And yes sometimes there can be weird poops after a GI episode due to the meds and everything, it’s just great that he’s pooping!

How big are your buns? I got a wonderful carrier bag for Sinterklaas: it has a sturdy bottom but a semi flexible top, and there are 4 different zippers.

One side opens fully, the other side opens halfway like a barn door, there’s a zipper that opens the whole top, and a small zipper in a side panel so you can stick your hand through to pet your…[Read more]

Gaah, how did I miss this? Sorry!

Of course it’s stressful when you’re bunny isn’t well. I can barely sleep when one of my fluffbutts is ill, I just want to check on them al the time and to make them comfortable in any way.

Glad that they found a cause for his troubles and that it’s something relatively minor. Wishing him a safe surgery and a…[Read more]

Glad you took him in! That sounds like a good plan for his mobility.

In terms of the vaccine, it’s hard to say. It’s so new that they really haven’t done the studies to see how much immunity wanes and what the range of windows can be between the first shot and the booster.

There’s this webinar from medgene that goes over a lot of those…[Read more]

As I directly mention, a rabbit needs to be on pellets if veggie selection is not being done in an intentional way (i.e., looking at the nutritional values of each and discerning daily quantities from there). The link I provided gives resources on examples of cases of pellet-free diets, including this:…[Read more]

Yes, we use wooden kitty litter pellets too, topped with a layer of hay so they won’t stand in any wetness.

These pellets are dirt cheap and you’d don’t need much of it: I only put it in the corners where they pee. Even though I change the boxes daily a 5 kg bag lasts me almost 2 months, costing about €4.

Thank you for your comment, but pellets aren’t necessary for bunnies. I’ve already found dried foods make him gassy, which is why I don’t give him much of it. Pellets technically don’t have good nutritional value since it’s just compressed timothy hay with preservatives.  The only bunnies who need pellets are babies, adult bunnies don’t need…[Read more]

Kiln dried pine pellets are safe, which is what people refer to in the rabbit community.

Your rabbit needs to be on some pellets if you’re not doing more intentional planning around veggies. Pellet free diets are very difficult to maintain and not doing it well means poor nutrition. Pellets are the only realistic way to ensure he is getting a nutritionally complete diet: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Pellet-free_diet

Hi everyone!  We got to see the vet today and are glad we got to. The good news is there’s nothing acutely wrong — no injury per se, just arthritis/spondylosis and muscle atrophy. She actually said the splayed front leg he has is common in older bunnies and is because after several weeks of holding it out to the side for support, the muscles…[Read more]

Also update- he is still much more like himself today. I gave him dinner veggies and he finished pretty much right away. He just finished off the rest of his morning pellets now (8pm)

he’s purring during pets and kisses. I went to give my other bunny a treat and Harper actually ran to the front of his cage when he heard the “clink” of the treat…[Read more]

I have a 7 year old French lop, Harper who went to the emerg vet Tuesday night. I caught him in early GI stasis. He was sent home with critical care every 6 hours.

long story short, he saw his regular exotic vet the very next morning. They said continue with critical care and I’m also giving a pain med and motility med to get the gut m…[Read more]

I use horse stall pellets which are made from pine and sold for animal bedding use, so that would be a safe option if you’re concerned.

I can’t find a better place to post this : (  My Agway dealer just told me that hardwood stove pellets are bad to use for rabbit litter, on account of some Black Walnut or Swamp Oak wood, which is toxic might be used to make them. I have read on many rabbit sites that wood pellets are good to use;  doesn’t seem likely, given the risk of poisoning.
