Need a quick pick-me-up? Let’s share pictures of our bunnies living their best life ^_^

Our Owen and Molly are always flopping and lazing about, it’s so great to watch them enjoy themselves 🥰

Not everything is going smoothly yet while bonding them, but when they’re scared or tired they immediately seek each other out to flop against each…[Read more]

Yay for being rid of the ear infection! They can be stubborn, so it’s really great that you took her in for a check up.

Serving critical care rolled up in lettuce like bunny dolmades was very clever! I’m glad she loved the lettuce and is eating more now 🙂

Mine were terrible together — spayed female attacking younger neutered male — until one day I had to transport them both in the same carrier. Put them in the back seat and hoped for the best. They were COMPLETELY freaked out by the car ride, and were besties for the rest of their lives.

omg HOW have I gone 13 years of bunny-adoring without knowing the word “rabbittude”??  😀  I love it!

I hadn’t thought about the minimum effective dose in my comment before — I agree, probably doesn’t make sense to go below that.

I’m not advocating this for others, but FWIW, Teddy’s been on super high doses for a year or two without obvious s…[Read more]

Thanks for mentioning about the water content in lettuce, if anything that makes me feel better. I got her green leaf lettuce last night and she’s been more than happy to eat it. I also kind of put critical care on the lettuce and rolled it up and was able to get a good bit of critical care in her that way, which was a godsend. She’s eating more…[Read more]

Update: I had to stop because they got to the point of non-stop fighting whenever I’d pull them apart. They both have small cuts on them, but it would have been much worse if I wasn’t constantly putting a shield between them to get Bodhi to let go. He was full on latching at any opportunity and Salem was becoming an anxious wreck, even if I was…[Read more]

Thanks, that’s reassuring to know ^_^ They react strongly to it though: Breintje couldn’t stand on his feet and wet himself, and Molly fell asleep all the time.

Bunnies do have a crazy tolerance for medication. When the vet said that they need 10x their weight in dog equivalents I asked Breintje if he’d gotten into my medicine cabinet. The little…[Read more]

Ellie, I dont know if I calculate right, but if your buns get 0.9 ml of 1.5 mg/ml strenght Metacam, the dosage is 1 mg per kilo body weight, which isn’t  crazy high, certainly not for short term use. It was what my Snoa got after her spay, for a week, divided into 2 doses 12 hours apart.

(Unrelated: I just bunsat a Nethie last week, I so fell in…[Read more]

How great that he’s been eating by himself! They can really be so out of it after anesthesia. He probably needed a good night’s rest though after this adventure!

It’s amazing that he eats so well!

Yes, they can be really funny when they wake up. I had that with my old cat: we went to pick him up and he let out a very low and drawn out “maaooooooow”, then his rear legs bent and he landed with his butt on the floor. Completely drunk 😆

Glad that he’s active, eating and pooping. Fingers crossed for mountains…[Read more]

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! <3

He has been home for a little over 12 hours now and is recovering well! He hasn’t needed CC yet as hes eating everything we give him on his own, hopefully now his hay eating will pick up again! He’s pooping too but leaving a couple cecals here and there.

Rabbit after GA are funny bless them, he wobbled and…[Read more]

Hmm yeah I agree with others that, that does sounds quite low. All I know abiut metacam I’ve pretty much learnt from this forum so I probably have nothing new to rely on that front but I do kniw that typically arthritis requires a decent dose twice daily to be effective depending on the severity.

Bella was on 0.4ml of dog meloxicom twice daily,…[Read more]

Ah, in that case my rabbits get a dose that would be the minimum dose for a 4,5 kg rabbit. (1,35/0,3= 4,5)

Ellie, I made a stupid typo, thank you for directing my attention to that!!!

It is 0.3 mg/kilo, milligrams per kilo, not ml/kg (milliliters)!

@Bam: this also explains why my buns are all a bit spaced out. Apparently my vet advises on the higher side of the scale.

That threshold of 0,3 mL/kg would mean that our bunnies get more than twice that. 0,9/0,3 = 3 (kg), and our rabbits are ~1,3 kg.

@Dana: The more I hear from others, the more I doubt this vet’s assessment. He isn’t taking…[Read more]

It does sound like under-dosing, Dana. I remember Medirabbit used to recommend 0.2 ml/kg as the lowest effective dose, but they changed it to 0.3 because rabbits metabolize meloxicam so fast. Does she give any reason why she’s reluctant to a higher dose? The most common side effect is, as you know, gastric ulceration, and there are ways to lower…[Read more]

I use a 20 ml syringe or a 10 ml syringe, that I fill from the back (I e take the plunger out and fill the syringe with a small spoon). I find those bigger syringes easier to use than the small syringes. Some people however prefer using small syringes, in which case its best to have a few that you pre-fill before feeding-time  so you just can get…[Read more]

Oh, I’m sorry she’s had a not so good experience with anaesthesia. That is absolutely sth you’d need to take into consideration and discuss very thoroughly with your vet.

I dont suppose she’ll eat fresh grass, but I once had luck with fresh grass for a bun that wouldnt eat hay and had small molar spurs. The grass ground them down so he never…[Read more]

Wow, thank you so much, Bam!  You are so kind to come and contribute this very helpful info after renovating your mom’s balcony!! Happy birthday to her 🙂

The vet said exactly what you did about gabapentin: that the effects vary a lot by individual. I’m so glad that it’s worked well for your friend’s dog.

I guess I’m not sure exactly how I’d…[Read more]
