When you’ve put the plunger back in, knock the bottom of the plunger against the table decisively, once or a few times. This will make the CC collect at the bottom end of the syringe so you can push out the air pocket that’s now at the top. This obviously works best with bigger syringes (10, 15 or 20 ml).
If the syringe starts to jam, lubricate…[Read more]

Totally. I’m so sorry it’s so hard to find a good bunny vet. I really hear you on not wanting to have to bring him in more. Maybe, if she wanted you to just try this under-dosage, if you tell her when it doesn’t work, she would let you give him a more reasonable dosage?
I totally get your wanting a really good vet on deck for the future t…[Read more]

Also, does anyone happen to know of any actual stores that carry critical care, where you can go in person and purchase it? i can only find the stuff on amazon and places like that, but it takes a week to ship to me. i keep getting recommended that papaya fine grind saying it will be easier, but for the life of me i can’t find a source for it.…[Read more]

i hate to say this but she has wised up to the critical care on the lettuce and will no longer take it. im trying so hard to feed her this critical care, but i just can not find a syringe that works. no matter how runny i make it, i can’t get it in and then put the plunger in and make it work, because there’s so much air in ti that it just blows…[Read more]

That’s a very good point that also comes up in the care for elderly humans: quality of life is the most important thing.
I wouldn’t worry about things that might come up during long-term use, but rather focus on giving him comfort.

Yes, it’s a prescription here.
Dana – At this age, I think the benefits outweigh the risks. My vet agreed and said a higher dosage is fine. Yes, you want to keep them going as long as you can. But at 12 or 13 years old, they need to be comfortable too.

Oooh, hreat that she likes fresh grass! The most important thing for the tummy and teeth is hay and grass (hay is of course dry grass). This time of year, in the Northern hemisphere, grass is generally safe. It’s early spring grass that has a lot of simple sugars that can mess with the microbial balance in the cecum).
Fingers crossed she’ll keep…[Read more]

🥰🥰🥰 Lazy buns are the best!
Here’s Snöa when she was helping me watch season 4 or Stranger Things. She found it it charming, but quite silly. She liked the new character Eddie, but missed Billy and his awesome mullet and ‘stache. 😉

Thank you for the grass suggestion! It was quite the hit. Still waiting on her vet (due to it being the weekend) – but she’s eating some hay and the grass and a few greens here and there. No pellets but the critical care should make up for that. Thanks again to everyone for the thoughts and helpful advice.

Hehe, my vet didn’t know it either, and it made him laugh. The word just makes so much sense! Rabbittude, every owner will know what you’re taking about. It’s a very good sign when rabbits start to show that again.

Thank you so much for all of your help! It’s always hard for me to know if I’m making the right calls on things, so the reassurance and tips are really helpful. I’m definitely going to take a break to let everyone recover (myself included haha) for the next few weeks before I do anything. I teach and I’m on summer break right now, so maybe I’ll…[Read more]

Yep, I’d make vague gestures towards her when she isn’t watching, and keep looking for another vet.
Is Metacam prescription-only in the US? My boyfriend’s family was shocked about the kinds of human medication that were sold OTC there. Any way to get that without going to a vet?
