Ellie, I’m sorry you have this problem. My good rabbit vet held a lecture for vets and vet techs last fall, arranged vy the Swedish Rabbit Welfare Society. I attended as a regular member. Vet mentioned that some neutered femalwe rabbits will “go crazy”and display an excess of all the various unwanted hormonal behaviors the spay was supposed to put…[Read more]

Ellie from The Netherlands started the topic Owen seems to chew on Molly's whiskers: they're suddenly shorter in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 1 month ago
Owen and Molly aren’t bonded yet, so they live with a fence between them. The interactions that we see are friendly, although Molly nudges and digs at Owen for attention sometimes. They like to lay against each other with the fence between them, and they groom each other through the bars. Owen has been ill for 2 weeks and was declared healthy a…[Read more]

How is your bun doing now? Hopefully she just had a scare, in which case she should soon be fine. Keep monitoring her, offer her a treat now and then, but don’t stress her out by fussing over her too much. If she starts to refuse even yummy treats and/or tries to hide away, I’d contact a vet. Do you notice any limping?

Our girl Molly was spayed in March, but she recently started to show all the signs of an unspayed doe again: spraying urine, leaving poop everywhere and honking.
She actually sprays instead of dribbling urine like you’d expect with a UTI. I noticed this when I put her back in her pen: she did some sort of jump and a spray of urine sailed across…[Read more]

Our carbon monoxide alarm went off (it was a false alarm) and when it did, I put my Beanie (the bunny) into her cage. However, I forget to lock the top of the cage and she managed to jump out of it. Her feet got caught on the side of the cage causing her to almost/partially land on her stomach. Immediately after the fall, she started to lick her…[Read more]

Yeah, I recommend shaving her fur. Try not to cut it too short, to avoid shaving her skin (hurts thinking about it). I’m not too good with medications and stuff, but I do know a little about how to help.
Have you tried using a cat flea comb? Get the ones with dual sides, since they work really well. You could even try human lice combs, for extra…[Read more]

Yes, I meant to make treats in and then serve to them. Just wasn’t sure because of the chemicals and stuff. Thanks!

cs started the topic Rabbit does not eat all hay — selects only certain kind and discards the rest in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 1 month ago
Hi guys!
My rabbit is approximately 1 year old and he used to eat everything when he was 6 months and under, but now he refuses to eat all his hay.
He only likes the crunchy long stalks and the ones with the fuzzy ends. He also eats the green grass that comes mixed with it.
The problem is, this accounts to only about 20% of the bag. The rest he…[Read more]

That’s so frustrating, I’m glad he’s doing ok, I agree with everyone else the vet saying 5-6 years is a bit startling and a red flag. My Milo had been on 1.0 ml of Metacam and no mention of famotidine was made at the time, but I later found out about it’s uses he was near 4 pounds when he was taking it. I would think if they were that worried…[Read more]

I called our vet yesterday and we have started her on some Baytril to be safe. He said it’s possible the pine pellets irritated her, but again we can’t be sure. She is doing much better today.
This bag of pine pellets from TSC had a very powerful pine smell when I opened the bag. Much stronger than the brand I had been getting from a feed sto…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Fleas! Help me in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 1 month ago
You can use Advantage or Revolution for mites. Revolution is prescription pnly in most countries, but Advantage is OTC. Dont use any compund containing Fipronil (Frontline, Sentry, Effipro and other brand names), fipronil is deadly toxic to rabbits.
It’s probably a good ides to cut her hair or even shave it but if you do shave her, take great…[Read more]

Right now I got her a BumBox which has her hay hanging near it but her food and water bowel are across so she basically poops in too spots. I was thinking of getting a storage tote big enough for me to place her food bowl in. I was going to try what 101rabbits does. Using pellets on the bottom then a layer of carefresh on top. Or I could just wait…[Read more]

Bad news. The bunny I just “rescued” last week from a friend had fleas a few months ago. She told me they were all gone after she gave her a flea bath (I know it’s a really bad idea, I would have never done that). I had inspected her head to toe, and I couldn’t find any. But this morning, my brother was holding her and found a live flea crawling…[Read more]

There are several options for a litter box, but it’s always handy to hang the hay rack over it. Bunnies love to eat when they’re on the John, and some bunnies prefer the hay that’s in their box.
We put wooden cat litter pellets on the bottom, topped with a layer of hay.
When we’re bonding them we have a large litter box, it’s the lower half of a…[Read more]
