I got a call from the vet today saying that he started eating hay voraciously again, as well as pooping a lot (although still irregular in shape).

His treatment so far consisted of subcutaneous fluids, pain medication (both opioid and non), antibiotics (as a precaution in case there was infection caused by whatever material caused the blockage),…[Read more]

Yes I am going to inform my vet regardless (it is a little hard to contact them sometimes). The ct showed that there weren’t really any major lesions but then again you can’t really get that close with it as you can an mri (they don’t have a machine suitable for rabbits). I don’t really know about epilepsy type seizures, she’s on gabapenti…[Read more]

I have a bonded pair of rabbits, and one has a nasty case of E. cuniculi. She doesn’t have the head tilt, but has hindlimb weakness and trouble getting around. Don’t worry, she’s seeing a good vet and is getting her medication, but I have some questions about care for her in the meantime.

i have tried everything to get my rabbit to stop chewing and digging at the carpet but nothing works. i’ve tried putting ceramic tiles over it, then she just chews at the spot beside it. i have bought her so many toys to distract her but the only thing she’s interested in is the carpet. i watched a video on teaching them what no means, and she…[Read more]

@Lindsayjgunn you’re probably looking at the same one I was talking about. It does contain baking soda, but with the research I’ve done, it seems like that isn’t harmful to buns. The Zeolite ingredient is something that is routinely added to cat litter to help with odor control. I do not think Yesterday’s News contained this ingredient but it…[Read more]

It is possible that the ec has been fought off (or rather adequately subdued) by your bun’s own immune defense, but that there are persisting microscopic lesions on the brain, causing these seizures. Lesions like that can heal with time. I have a (human) friend who got epileptic seizures post encephalitis (that in turn was secondary to a…[Read more]

If she is already weaned, do not give milk formula as it can disrupt the GI tract.

Here is some guidance of various rabbit-safe ways to “bathe” a rabbit: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Bathing_rabbits

Of note, I don’t think rabbits should be getting significant urine staining on their fur, if their health/mobility is fine, and if the litterbox set-up is proper. Generally, the paws and bum will stay very clean, so if the…[Read more]

Echo’ing the others, yes, slowly transition her to the appropriate diet and be sure to eliminate all veggies from the diet right now, as the gut is not mature enough to handle it.

Separate from your question, I do want to highlight that you need to keep your new young rabbit separate from your first rabbit at all times. If there are intentions to…[Read more]

I’d still want to avoid surgery, esp since its summer (all open surgery is more risky in warm weather). I do see the dilemma though, if he declines he might not be able to handle anesthesia, let alone major surgery.

Do you know what treatment they are giving him? A typical protocol would be fluids, sub q or even iv, as good hydration is what can…[Read more]

Ec Titers showed even LOWER signs than previous tests? Even though at this point she was at her worst? We did find that her crp levels were abnormal however. Unfortunately she did happen to have another seizure today (right after I told the vet she didn’t have any episodes 😑) but I believe it was because I decided to do her medicine after ex…[Read more]

Hi everybody. I need some help. So I know that rabbits can mess up their fur with urine, but Mrvica(that’s my rabbit’s name) was completely clean 3 days ago and she’s cleaning herself multiple times a day like every rabbit. Today I’ve noticed that her fur is soaked in urine and she smells bad. I’m cleaning her toilet on a daily basis and she’s a…[Read more]

    Thanks for your reply.

I went to see him today and if I didn’t already know that he’s not eating or pooping, I would have thought there was nothing wrong with him. We decided to give him a couple more days, and if the situation has not changed by Thursday we’re going to go the surgical route.

    Fingers crossed.

That’s a good idea! I have no idea if/how they’ll split. Sometimes they’ll all cuddle together (rarely), other times Sage+Salem, Sage+Bear, or Salem+Bear. A lot of the day, they just kind of lay out in different parts of the cage. Sage is still chasing and nipping today, but I think it’s an improvement from yesterday and definitely seems a lot…[Read more]

I remember one of our members, Muchelle, whose bun Kuro had surgery for bowel obstruction. This was back in 2016, in Italy. Kuro recovered. Hopefully your bun will too. It is risky, obviously. It is also risky to not do anything.

As others have said, with stasis, it can be a long time before you see poop. It can take weeks. I cant say if surgery…[Read more]
