I love clicker training! I was working with my cat Toby for a while and he learned to “target” really quickly.

DanaNM replied to the topic IMPOSSIBLE to be litter trained. I've tried EVERYTHING. in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years ago
Ok this is helpful! That screen (especially the white one in the gray box) looks like it could be painful on their feet. I would try using boxes with no screen for now, and just a layer of carefresh. Add a fluffy layer of hay directly on top. There is a bit of an art form to making a bun look enticing enough for the bun to jump in.
If you end up…[Read more]

This is currently what the set up is. I am running out of litter, so I definitely will try the carefresh. Should I put the wood litter underneath the carefresh or only the carefresh?
Thumper and Bloo are 100% bonded. They are basically glued to each other! Where one goes, the other follows. I don’t think it’s a territorial issue – maybe it is?…[Read more]

Another thought I just had was to try feeding him using food puzzles to keep him a bit more stimulated and busy. I would also feed less treats, especially if they are sugary! I’m thinking that just like a kid, sugar might amp him up LOL.
My crazy bun Cooper was (and still is a bit) VERY reactive about food, and it helped to actually scale back…[Read more]

Hmmm, reading this again now it sounds a bit like cecal dysbiosis that could have been triggered by their illnesses and the assorted medications. And it makes more sense that they are both having issues knowing they are sisters.
Usually hay-only diet is the recommendation for this, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be helping! Another thing…[Read more]

So I started clicker training with Jasper today. It’s something I wanted to do with both cats from when they were kittens, but the whole cute kitten thing kind of distracted me and then I just never got around to it, lol. So here we are, Jasper just turned 4, she’s crazy food motivated so it should be pretty straightforward. We did two training…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Pron8ure/Protexin/ Probiotics everyday in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years ago
Probiotics can as a rule be given every day, but I have never used probiotic oil. I dont suppose its a very big dose volume-wise? Oil is of course very high in calories.
Probiotics don’t make buns fat. They help balance the gut microbiota so the bun can make better use of its food i e take up all the important nutrients. They have been shown to…[Read more]

thank youÂ
Im from Australia so we don’t have Sherwood brand. I had a look online and couldn’t really find a website that ships to Australia either.
I’ll give dried herbs a try, I just didn’t think they had much nutritional value. I’m worried she isn’t getting enough nutrients

Thank you! I think that’s one of the reasons why she decided to help us. At first she said no because she runs the sick bay for several shelters, but she wanted a bit more info about the situation.
When I mentioned that we’d already done a lot of pre-bonding and hutch swapping, she called the shelters to ask if there were any surgeries planned…[Read more]

I’ll have to look into some of those suggestions. Yeah, he plays with them, but maybe I need to find something that’ll keep his attention and hold it better.

So I managed to get some help in moving furniture around and they are now side by side – I’ve mirrored the pens so the litterboxes are at the same end and they can eat together at the other end. She was hesitant at first and followed his movements the first few hours but it’s been 3 days now and I haven’t seen her lunge or growl once!
I’m going t…[Read more]

@DanaNM: yes, they’re adorable together 🥰 Never mind TV, I’m having a great view from the sofa here!
It really was the new space that made them a couple. Things just weren’t neutral enough in my house. We wiped everything down with vinegar to clear the smells. Then we set up a different pen and rearranged things.
There are new toys, a new litter…[Read more]

Congrats! That’s excellent! They look great!
And agree that a new space and a neutral party are always helpful! And I agree that mounting is normal! My buns still mount each other from time to time. 🙂

Here they are enjoying some fresh spinach:

@Bam: One! Wow… Our bonder said it too: there are way too few people to fall back on if you’re a rabbit owner. It’s improving, but the support network is still very sparse. It doesn’t…[Read more]

I would put the litter boxes at the edges closest together, since they spend so much time in them! Could you possibly have a bit more of the pens share walls? Ideally they could be fed near each other AND have the litter boxes near each other, but I would say if you had to pick one, go with the litter boxes.
