I think Luna is either angry at me or she’s just going the bathroom there and giving me the yeah I’m being a brat look.

Good idea, I might look into a small one @Moonshadow, just have to figure out how to set it up so any cording in bun safe.
He did sneeze a little bit last night, though less often and quieter, and his nose looked irritated, but so far today I haven’t heard him sneeze and his nose doesn’t look irritated any more (it was slightly reddish). I figure…[Read more]

I buy wood stove pellets. The price has gone up 75% this year, but they’re still the most affordable option.
A litterbox screen would be great. The dry poopies can be collected and used as plant fertilizer.
I looked through my old notes about fly strike, from a webbinar by UK vet Richard Saunders (quite the celebrity as vets go) He says fly…[Read more]

My vote is the last idea, “Ok my turn now!”. I think it’s good you stopped the cheek fur pulling, face nipping always makes me nervous.
I think I read somewhere that digging a scrape can be a way of marking territory, so that could be why you are seeing the digging at the blankets.

That sounds like an improvement! I would repeat that date a few more times before increasing the length of time.
Yes it’s definitely OK to be in the pen with them at this point. When you get to longer sessions where they need less intervention it’s good to step out of the pen, but for now it’s best to be right in there with them so you can…[Read more]

It looks slightly better but is still very wet. Whatever the source, prolonged dampness can cause other issues, like fungal infections. I also notice it looks like he’s squinting in these pics? Could just be the flash or camera angle but squinting is also a sign of pain.

I don’t worry too much about the dry poops, but using the screen helps with that because you can dump all the poops first, then scoop out the urine soaked areas.
Also if you can buy your pine pellets from a feed or farm store they are sold as horse stall bedding. A 40 lb bag usually costs around $8 or 9. Lots of people get them at Tractor Supply.

His face looks better today (I don’t know what happened last night when I went to sleep) but I’m still gonna take him to the vet just to be safe

Thanks Dana, your response was very reassuring!!
I tried again today, repeating everything exactly as I did yday however, before putting Freya in the same space I put her in the carrier and just walked around for a few mins to slightly stress her so she’s not as aggressive and I think it worked? I put her in and she took in her surroundings and t…[Read more]

Thanks for the tip!
Is dry poop as much of a problem or is it mainly the urine soaked poop and bedding? I have used cat scoopers previously and they are great for the soiled bits but i find the dry poops get everywhere and the only way to rid them completely is emptying the whole box.

We have resumed bonding now I’m back from my travels! We have some interesting behaviours.. Opinions?
Digging at and biting holes in the ‘bonding blankets i.e flooring’ – maybe just a kind if anxiety behaviour from the bonding stress.
We’ve had LOTS of grooming from Nellie x2 seperate 10 min head grooms she gave Glenn in todays session (still…[Read more]

Glad things look ok!
FYI I use a cat litter scoop to just scoop out the soiled litter, I don’t dump it all every 2 days. Using a litter box screen also makes cleaning easier because it separates the poop from the litter.

Thanks both for your help! She continues to act normal and look clean… Phew, I will be keeping a close eye and be chucking the litter away daily at least until I can get more wood pellets.
I think I will look into more economicly friendly litters options so I can keep them as clean as possible but without wasting lots of unspoiled wood pellets.

Keep a very close eye on him until then and I’d also recommend weighing him, he does look a little gaunt in the latter photo and if you weigh him now you’ll be able to get a comparison weight on the day of your vet visit.
Obviously if there are other symptoms such as stopping eati g or pooping before your appointment date he’ll need to be seen…[Read more]

Maybe you can get a hepa filter for the bunny room to help take dust, allergens, and stuff out of the air if his sneezing persists.

We vacuumed everywhere and gave their room a deep clean and got rid of all the hay dust (I was sneezing by the end). I am hoping that is all it is as he does sneeze occasionally from dust or such, he is a delicate little prince bun. I will call vet if he still is sneezing tomorrow. He’s not sneezing right now, so fingers crossed.

If it’s irritation, then the sneezing will subside once the irritant is no longer there. If the sneezing persists, then it’s probably an infection. Discharge may be noticeable, but not always.
