I don’t think so. I’ve had bunnies that had no stasis episodes and they lived very long lives.

When I was a bunny noob, I didn’t realize the importance of spaying buns. I had a couple of girls who lived between 8-9 years old, but I’m not entirely sure if they died of cancer or not (although I suspect it in at least 1).

Like LBJ said, you may want to talk to your vet to see what they think of still doing the surgery for your girls. 🙂

My boy slept a lot as he got older. It was always so sweet seeing him passed out in the hay. I think some of it can be age-related, but if you think Nellie needs a higher dose of pain meds then you could look into that to see if that changes anything.

How is he doing now? Serve him his daily greens freshly rinsed and wet, if he gets greens. Encourage moving around. A light tummy rub can be beneficial.

Does he happen to be shedding? Perhaps he ended up ingesting too much fur while grooming and it caused a bit of a blockage?

You might also try tummy rubs to help get things moving again. Sometimes gently massaging their tummy will help move any gas or whatever through.

Is he drinking water ok?

I agree with the others, but just wanted to mention bunnies can be allergic to hay/hay dust. Sometimes switching hay (Timothy to orchard grass or something) can help. Unfortunately, it sounds like there may be a more serious issue going on since its a recurring issue. I’m so sorry to hear about your poor bun(and your poor finances!)

Mucus is a sign of inflammation in the GI tract. It can be caused by a lot of things. It certainly doesn’t hurt to treat for EC. Panacur is well-tolerated by most bunnies. Rabbits need a higher dosage than a dog. Dosage can be as high as 1.5 mg/kg for acute pain, but typical (i.e., maintenance) is 0.3-0.6.

My bunny was eating like it was going out of style. I could see a bunny that had stomach pain not wanting to eat, but arthritis doesn’t necessarily prevent them from eating as long as they can reach the food.

I’m hoping that he continues to eat hay and poops more overnight. His last poop was about 7-8 hours ago and it was about 20 of them, but they were all small, hard, misshapen. He is nearly impossible to syringe feed anything to, so he hasn’t gotten any simethicone or critical care, but he has eaten a pretty decent amount of hay today. We just came back from the vet. He received an injection of Metacam, and I was instructed to give him 1.5 mg orally per day. Do you also use Metacam (meloxicam) which is for dogs for your rabbits, and if so, do you use a similar dosage?

If he’s pooping then there isn’t an obstruction. At least not a full one. Small, misshapen poops are a sign that things have slowed down. But he is eating something and he is pooping, so that is a good sign. Not great, but not full on panic mode either. Have you tried giving him gas drops (simethicone)? Or any other supportive care?
