What are the ear drops? I’m surprised the vet didn’t prescribe an oral antibiotic.

Ear infections often first present as GI stasis, my vet said in a rabbit ear webbinar last year. It’s because ear infections are very painful. Rabbits are sensitive to pain and tend to stop eating when in pain.

Metacam is not a strong painkiller, it’s similar to ibuprofen for humans. Just like in humans, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti inflammatory…[Read more]

    Everybun is different.

Gabapentin is for nerve pain and it can make buns drowsy; my vets warn every time and label it as such. I’ve given it to a couple of my buns and it’s never made them drowsy. One is on it (and metacam) for long term for other reasons. I’ve never given it for stasis specifically but it is a very safe drug with a very large…[Read more]

Charlie my four year old lop girl is being treated for an external ear infection with baytril optic. 2-4 drops once a day.

She was showing signs of GI stasis Monday before we knew she had ear problem. I had metoclopramide so started her on that. She was much improved quickly and did great Tuesday. Wednesday she wasn’t herself and ate but r…[Read more]

So… why do you not want the bunny in the office? Is it purely because you don’t want to “share” with your sister? I love my bunny to death, but there’s no way he would be in the same room where I’m trying to sleep. LOL

What kind of cataract is it? Front or back? Also, cataracts can be caused by EC so you may want to take that into consideration.

Miu still isn’t really eating post vet visit,  despite not having anything obvious wrong. I am guessing gas and pain from that initially. Now not sure, but vet sent her home and she seemed to be improving a bit and ate a tiny bit of hay and pellets, but not enough and she refuses critical care. Just will not swallow. I have tried a few things,…[Read more]

I tried lint roller, but it’s a big NOPE! from Dorian and didn’tevenworkas well as damp hands. I wish it did!

(Also I don’t seem to get emails on replies even though I thought I had set it that way. Should check)

So very sorry,  that is so rough and I get how you feel, been there too,  but you are not to blame! (Sadly the people who might be rarely feel guilt). I also get not being up for dealing with more loss, so if you find it easier to let your sister have her and give yourself some time to grieve before considering another bunny that is valid. But m…[Read more]

I am sadly at the vets again, this time with Miu. I suspect its gas, she was in a lot of pain and not eating. Luckily she doesn’t seem to bad, but I didn’t want to risk it. Right now waiting for blood work and hoping I can take her home soon.

During the initial exam the vet mentioned she had cataracts,  which we suspected,  but figured nothing c…[Read more]

Yes, peeing on the bed can and likely will still occur even when spayed/neutered. It’s important to keep in mind that rabbits are not “litterbox trained” in the same way cats are– rabbits tend to eat, poop, and pee at the same time, so it happens to be if you set up a box with hay, they will use it consistently. This does not stop them however…[Read more]

Hi! Thank you so so much for replying quickly.

My parents understand the whole bunnyProofing thing, they love helping out when I petsit. We also already have an x-pen so I already have an area like that! But it takes up a lot of space in my room and what I want to do is to keep the bunny in the x-pen for the first while and once I feel like the…[Read more]

To be completely honest, I most often recommend people who still live with their parents (and those parents are not completely on board nor knowledgeable about rabbit care) to wait until they move out and have more control to get a rabbit.

While the free roaming arrangements sound fine, there is a lot of money and trial and error needed to…[Read more]

    Hi!

I am 15 and looking to adopt a bunny. I live with my parents, obviously, and I’ve almost convinced them to let me keep a bun, but they still have two concerns. I’m putting together a presentation that I can show them, to fully convince them! The bunny I’m looking to adopt is coming in my area on September 13, so I want to convince them as…[Read more]

Thinning shears have the teeth on them. They just thin out the fur. Trimming shears would be more like regular scissors. I think you could try the thinning shears and see if it causes the fur to mat. Like I said, they did not work well with wool. But lionhead mane fur is a different texture.

Yes, that’s what I meant by shears. I guess I’ll just try and see. I actually saw a video where they just trim all around similar bun with normal scissors 😯
