Yes, I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you for all the help everyone! I’ll keep an eye on him and give him just hay and water for now to see if he continues to release sludge. If he does then I might take him to the vet.

You can absolutely switch him to adult pellets! Young rabbit pellets have more calcium and protein than an adult bun needs.

The flower mix sounds fine, what to avoid is mainly alfalfa, clover and very dark leafy greens such as kale and black kale.

It’s great that he gets a lot of exercise!

Hi I wanted tips on how to bond a neutered male with a unspayed female rabbit. Spaying her is not an option. I got this rabbit and she had a case of head tilt it had went on for so long that the vet wasn’t able to fix it and says she believes spaying would be too risky for her. (Not to fear she’s great with her mobility now and isn’t in any pain)…[Read more]

My bunny is digging a lot in the corner of his cage where he hides. He has plenty of toys and every time he does it I open his hutch to let him out, but he’s only interested in digging. He’s eating and drinking fairly normally, but he’s also hiding from me a lot more than he used to. I got him neutered about a month ago, so I have no idea if it’s…[Read more]

Thank you all for responding. I was not aware of bladder sludge until now, but with that info I think that matches what he has. Calcium compounds are white-ish right? I’m pretty sure I saw it but it was hard to see because he only had it on his bed and blankets, so it was getting absorbed. I still saw a few stains of this sludge on his bed even a…[Read more]

Something to note about bladder sludge concerns is water consumption and exercise are both important to deter sludge, in addition to diet. I agree that from just one photo, it looks more like thicker urine than diarrhea or mucous.

    If he’s 10 months old he’s not a baby, so that’s great!

As LBJ says, this could perhaps be bladder sludge. Bladder sludge is thick and pasty and consists of calcium compounds.

Have you seen more stains like this?

I agree that he will be fine as long as your mom knows his routines and what health things to monitor. 🙂

I guess I’m just surprised at the volume that needs to be drank… 1 L of medicine is a lot!

Thank you both for the replies! From what I searched, ponazuril can’t be bought here and I couldn’t find where to try order it from, so I will ask my vet about it. Here usually Sulfacox or Salicox is used when it comes to coccidia, beside my vet, two of my teachers are vets so I often consult with them, too, and they confirmed it. It’s written on…[Read more]

It’s not letting me add an image but an acquaintance who knew a lot more about rabbits than me told me before that he was around 4 months. So I’m guessing he’s around 10 months? probably nearing 1 year.

Thanks for responding. I’m not sure what his exact age is because he is a ferral domestic rabbit, I can attach a picture right when he got him (1st week of June). His poop has gotten darker and smaller when he started eating the Oxbow timothy hay I got him last time, thats why I switched to a different brand because the batch I got from Oxbow w…[Read more]

I never had issues having my parents come take care of the buns. They would immediately realize it was them coming to feed them, etc. and would quickly adjust to the slightly different schedule. Then we would come home and they would be like “oh hey, are you going to feed us or what?”.

What part of Southern CA are you in?

If you’re in the San Diego area, I had a good experience with Dr. Kelly at VCA Acacia in Escondido.

Its normally not to hard to replace power cords on things if your handy with a screwdriver and soldering iron. Rabbits will chew and destroy everything in reach. Wire mesh is normally your best friend for bunny proofing.

Here in the UK finding a rabbit savvy vet combined with a fair priced vet has been a real headache because of recent events many vets will not accept new customers where as others are charging extortionate amounts, listed as rabbit savvy but have not got much experience with rabbits or there rabbit vets have retired.

Rabbits are at high risk…[Read more]
