Owen had his dental surgery today: he had spurs on his molars. It all went fine, and he’s safely home again. I’ve been very stressed out for more than a month, because a friend lost her bun during a routine dental surgery in October. There’s no clinic in the area that has a gas anaesthetic, so Owen had to get surgery in the old-fashioned way…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for your loss, what an awful way to lose him 😢

It’s not very common to do a necropsy after a rabbit has died suddenly. When we lost Breintje last year the whole vet team was shocked, and they talked it over and went through all his files to see if they’d missed a sign.

They didn’t propose a necropsy though, and from what I’ve heard…[Read more]

I think he will be just fine. I had to take my bun on a 2 hour drive just 2 weeks after having her which i was very nervous about as I didn’t know how she’d cope, but she flopped and slept most the way! However, I only stayed there for less than 3 days before I had to go back home so she didn’t get the time to settle in properly but I think 3 wee…[Read more]

I use back2nature for my buns litter. It’s paper pellets, i’ve never used any other litter before but heard it’s more absorbent and doesn’t get as crumbly as carefresh. We’ve had no problems with it so far 🙂

Thank you so much that’s really helpful I didn’t know oxbow stored the hay for the correct amount of time to make sure it’s safe from the RHDV2 virus I just learned about this rabbit virus this year so I just started getting a tad more worried even though so far my state is in the green zone but they’re are some surrounding states that do have the…[Read more]

It’s ok and thanks for the recommendation. Is it the fluffy type bedding or is it the pellet shaped litter they came out with out of curiosity?

I agree with Bam, and your assessment of your mom was probably correct too. Everyone deals with grief in different ways, and anger and blaming are a common phase of grief.  I do think that the vet did their best and honestly it sounds like most vets would have done the same. When a bun is stable and recovering, it would have been unusual for them…[Read more]

I think its fine too. Back in my uni days I used to do just this! My buns would travel every xmas and summer for a vacay. We did this for two years, 3 hour drive. To be honest with the exception of the car journey they loved it because our families house was much nicer for them to play in than out little uni house and then coming back they would…[Read more]

I know Oxbow stores the hay for the required amount of time, so their products should be free of RHDV. I don’t know about Standlee, I see no statement on their website. I assume they probably take precautions since they are marketing to rabbits. Perhaps you could contact them directly?

I love the Standlee hay.  It’s grown here in Idaho so is typically super fresh.

    Cost is awesome!!

We get the Timothy and Orchard grass for Piggies and buns, various types for the goats.

Be sure to smell it before you leave the store.  I did end up with one musty box.

Due to forum rules, we do not permit users posting links to vendors. That being said, Dally has provided you the name “Carefresh” as the brand so you can search for it yourself on vendor sites. Carefresh can be available in different varieties, but it will all be the same brand. I would avoid their colored and scented versions and just go with the…[Read more]
