I think he might be. Every time I pet him I get a handful of fur when I pull my hand away. I’ve been brushing him as much as I can, but he doesn’t tolerate it very well.

Is he molting? Molting can cause the bun to ingest more hair (as the bun grooms itself). This can lead to “beads-on-a-string” poop.

Misshapen poop can mean a slight gut slowdown, which is common during a heavy molt. It can also be a result of a dietary change. Even a smallish change in diet can affect the gut.

Well arthritis can make moving uncomfortable, leading to sloppier eating/cleaning in that area, so smearing isn’t necessarily defining a diagnosis at this point.

I guess that just proves even more that there’s something internal going on, because I keep flipping back and forth between EC and arthritis.

He’s never molted before.  Which is why the bare spots seemed weird to us.  BUt I suppose he could be molting for the first time now.

He’s our only rabbit. So he’s not being groomed by another one.

As for the whitish spot, it’s not a scab and not raised.

We have a vet appointment on Monday.  So we’ll see what they say.

I am currently on an extremely tight budget. I use the pine pellets, but additionally, I use junk mail and flyers (non-coated) which helps save even more, and if someone is trying to steal your paper info, soaked in urine should be more deterrent.

Yes, the one who had the open wound has always had bumps of some sort. He had/has a history of fights (surrendered multiple times) so I just assume it was battle scars. We see vets quite often.

First, what do you mean by one of your rabbits has scabs/scars that he’s “always had them”? If there is an underlying condition, for example syphilis causing ongoing scabs/wounds, it is important to get that checked and yes, bonded rabbits can react to illness in the other rabbit.

Everything EXCEPT what Bam has circled in their edit of your pic doesn’t concern me — it looks like a normal molt, from my experience of molts with Wick. It can sometimes leave very distinct, isolated bare skin patches.

What is circled does look unusual — it is a scab? Hard? Raised? It’s hard to tell based on the pic angle.

Admittedly not as caught up on the details for your case, but re: the leaving a bit of smear poo behind, right now, I wouldn’t be too concerned — when a rabbit is feeling unwell, some GI distress is common, and it can lead to some more wet poos. I just read through previous forum posts talking about this and one suggestion is digestive upset from things in their diet but he eats a ton of hay and about 2 tablespoons of pellets.
