Pegasus passed away earlier in December, aged 11.
I wanted to honour him here like the others…Peg, your nature made it so easy when you came into my home. You quickly became friends with Potamus who had lost her companion, Gooseman. I dearly wanted that for her because she had lived her whole life until then with another bunny at her side. Y…[Read more]

Hey BM!
Gosh, I’m glad it became obvious that he was still intact. I’m curious if you let the shelter know your discovery? Mistakes happen obviously. The feedback might help them be extra careful about future intakes and adoptions. He could have ended up inadvertently contributing to the rabbit population in another home 😉 -

I’m sorry you and your bun had go go through that. EC is notoriously difficult to diagnose with tests, but some vets insist on testing before treatment. Some vets will treat anyway, on suspicion, because the standard treatment isnt very complicated and most rabbits tolerate it well. Standard treatment is 28 days of Panacur (fenbendazole), often…[Read more]

the initial tests we did were never looking for EC, just everything else – I mentioned they never flagged anything as I find it’s surprising given his symptoms that his kidney levels never raised alarm given how much the poor dude drank (I’m sure they were definitely being affected).
he was then diagnosed (misdiagnosed, I should say) as hav…[Read more]

What better thing to dream of than nanners?

BrunosMama replied to the topic Bun having bad dreams? in the forum BEHAVIOR 1 year, 2 months ago
Yeah, I think it’s possible as well. 🙂
Our old bunny Backers used to “eat” in his sleep lol. He would sit there chewing, sometimes poking his tongue out, with his eyes closed and clearly asleep. It was cute. I always figured he was dreaming of nanners lol. 🙂

I’ve seen bunnies twitching and “running” with their feet in their sleep, so I don’t think it’s far fetched to think they could have a dream about something that startles them.

Just wondering if anyone else’s buns seem to have bad dreams?
The other evening, I was sitting in our computer room playing a game (nothing loud) and Rocky and Napoleon (who live free roam in that room) were passed out asleep. Suddenly, for seemingly no reason, Rocky jumped awake, thumped, and raced behind the couch like he was startled. In a…[Read more]

It looks like it was irritated, but it does look better. My guess is something go in there or she was poked. Maybe by some hay.

Just took this photo today, i feel like it’s a healing scratching mark, since it’s not watery anymore and she wasn’t with a closed/half shuted eye. (Had to put the new image on Google Drive because i can’t pin anymore).

The test for EC is a titer. A fecal test is only going to look for worms, etc.

vet got a look at her front and back teeth and everything looked good and was really at a loss as to what could be going on. She talked with another vet, called me back at the end of her shift, and said she wants me to stop by on Monday and give a fecal sample to test for parasites.

Em – EC tests are notorious for having false results, so what you experienced isn’t unusual.
I agree with the others. Something is definitely missing here. If she is getting appropriate food, then something else is going on. I would suggest a more thorough look at her teeth to rule that out. This needs to be done under anesthesia. They can’t just…[Read more]

Definitely would proceed with further scans/imaging (x-rays or skull CT) to rule out a dental issue.
my previous rabbit had sudden unexplained weight loss and excessive thirst. His blood results never yielding anything alarming. He was a frenchie, and went from almost 7kg to 4kg. It was undiagnosed E. cuniculi impacting his kidneys (I have no…[Read more]

Hello!
It sounds like you and Budja have been though a lot! I’m so glad to hear she is doing well despite all the health problems.
I know caring for a sick bun can be hard on both the bun and their bunparent, so I hope you have been doing well, too! 🙂

Her poop (size, amount, and shape) looks good to me. I did manage to get her to gain a pound but whether or not she will be able to keep that weight I’ll have to wait and see.

If everything else was good, I’d still suspect the teeth. Some buns have very sensitive mouths and will become picky if they have even very small spurs. The bun might still eat but not as much as she ideealy should, and she might not chew the food as properly as she should – that can in turn affect weight and how the stomach/intestines process the…[Read more]
