Most buns don’t like being picked up (and might not ever learn to like it), but I agree it’s too soon to tell if he will learn to like pets. Lionheads know they are gorgeous and make you work for their love! LOL
I don’t think you traumatized him! Keep laying on the ground with him and yes, play hard to get! Beat him at his own game 😉

It’s too soon to tell if he will become a cuddly bun. Most buns do like being pet, esp on the forehead and around the ears. It often takes time though.
Right now Dusty Bun is starting puberty, which means he can have mood swings, be extra skittish, pee and poop mark, display courtship behaviours and just generally be rather restless.
This is…[Read more]

Hi this is Dusty Buns!
I have a question about bonding with your rabbit:) How long does it take? Will he ever be cuddly and love pets or is it his personality? He is 3 1/2 months old male, I’ve had him since January. He is super skittish and it seems like he doesn’t like to be pet or held. After the first couple weeks I saw a good sign that he…[Read more]

I made some cardboard tunnels with hay or hay cubes inside which he now loves! Thanks for the tips about dark spaces!

Thank you everyone for your replies!
A lot of these helped a ton!
1. No giving in even though he’s cute!
2. I tried to spray my perfume( this didn’t help too much) 3. Distracting him with toys and giving him treats for play with the right ones 4. Keeping him entertainedNow he will only try once or twice in the mornings when he first comes out…[Read more]

It does sound like he is improving. Yes, not all abscesses are equal. The ones that are in the bone are the real nasty ones that you hear horror stories about. If it’s an abscess that formed because of a wound, then those tend to heal more easily. Keep up the good work! His 2nd abscess may just need more time (longer course of antibiotics).
Since…[Read more]

I agree with Dana. My mind went immediately to a bladder issue.

Ok thank you so much for the advice. I will do cage swapping and if that goes well start with shorter sessions and let you know how it goes 🙂

I think forum moderator @Wick and Fable (but it could have been someone else) used these storage cube grids that were actually solid plastic to make some bunny pen walls. I was also considering making some sort of hay barrier using Coroplast (that I would attach to the pen wall where their hay rack is). Maybe something like that would work?

My mind immediately went to a urinary problem. Hormonal behavior like that can actually be caused by bladder crystals or sludge causing irritation. Him not drinking is also concerning, so I think it’s good you are taking him to the vet. They can check for issues with an x-ray and a urinalysis to look for bacteria and sludge. What greens does he…[Read more]

Hi there!
Your plan sounds like a good starting point. It’s good to have a plan, but be prepared to adjust if things are not working as expected. Every pair of buns is different, so some strategies work better for some than others.
I have a couple suggestions. First would be to swap actually bunnies when doing pre-bonding, instead of just the…[Read more]
