I also just would like confirmation from others more experienced with sore hocks and what not, if the shampoo method his vet recommended is safe and effective. I’ve read that you can put fur on their feet and wrap it in vet wrap so I’m wondering if that would be a better way to go. I’m just not sure how shampoo would work in the long-run when he’s…[Read more]

Fresno was neutered nearly 3 years ago and it’s been 5+ years since my girls were spayed. Him and Nora, his partner, have been bonded for over 2 years. He didn’t use to pee everywhere but I can’t remember when it started – somewhere in the past year or so, so it’s definitely not a Spring thing. His poops look pretty healthy for the most part but…[Read more]

Can you provide a quick reminder of the spay/neuter status of your rabbits and whether they were properly bonded?

Can you also provide a quick reminder if your rabbit consistently has healthy poos? A picture of the litterbox set up would also be helpful!

If both fixed and bonded for some time, there are health conditions that can cause hormonal…[Read more]

Have you tried a different vet? One rabbit savvy? You did not mention what sort of testing may have been done. Throwing antibiotics at a wound without knowing the cause seems pretty low commitment so I’d encourage widening the search for a vet with good rabbit experience and expertise.

At this point, I’d think there is concern for both the…[Read more]

Molts can lasts for several weeks to months. I honestly view it more as continuous waves rather than episodes of molting. There are weeks in a row where fur will release in varying quantities per day, and then there will be weeks in a row the coat is doing nothing. You just need to react appropriately.

I agree that going sooner would be best. He is still eating and there are no obvious signs of significant decline, so I’d encourage you to remind yourself of that as you sit in worry — he’s not in any sort of immediate danger.

In the future (or now?), you can also try giving CC in lieu of investing in a bag of different pellets– CC is…[Read more]

It does sound like it could be his teeth. It’s quite, quite possible to do everything right and the bun still develops molar spurs when it gets old. It’s great that he’s still eating hay!

I’d say go to the vet sooner rather than later, and preferably before he stops eating (which a rabbit is highly likely to do if it has dental pain -it doesnt…[Read more]

You can use manukka honey on wounds on rabbits, but I would NOT use it on her without asking your vet if it’s ok to try. The “problem” with manukka honey is that its very very tasty, so the risk is she’ll want to clean her face with her paws to get to the honey. This could make matters worse, obviously. You would probably need to put a cone on her…[Read more]

I would say if you are brushing them and the fur isn’t readily coming off, then the shedding is slowing down. I wouldn’t worry about overgrooming unless you’re being aggressive with it.

    Hi everyone,

Please excuse the really anxious overtone of my message. I know that a vet visit is always the best route and I do have a rabbit savvy vet to call.

My 8 year old Mini Rex (will be 9 in 7 months) recently switched up his eating habits. He regularly ate Oxbow Timothy Hay pellets or Garden Select pellets as his main pellet source. He…[Read more]

Hiya, back again with more questions and issues lol. Since I last posted, I have gotten Fresno’s ear mites relatively cleared up. He just went to the vet today and they ran a mite test on stuff that was in his ears which is apparently just ear wax or crusts or something at this point. He still however has issues with a dirty bum in that some of…[Read more]

    Hey everyone

I posted a forum on here in December last year asking if anyone could help identify this wound- since then i managed to get her to the vets (after months of calling and trying to get an appointment) and they have no clue what this is.. she was on antibiotics for a week but nothing has changed

Hmm… did you look down there? Could his scent glands be clogged? Or maybe the area is bothering him for some reason? I could see a rabbit moving their tail if they are getting a sensation back there.

Snuffles is often used as a “catch-all” term that describes the symptoms. Did the vet confirm this was pasteurella? Or is it some other type of bacteria? How were his teeth checked? Did you have x-rays done? There are a few different possibilities here. He could have chronic pasteurellosis. He could have a really stubborn URI. Or he could have…[Read more]

I agree. Sometimes 10 days just isn’t long enough. A lot of vets will do 14 days minimum. For really stubborn URIs, they need to be on an antibiotic even longer.

I’m so sorry you haven been going through this, very stressful!

I suspect that Leo’s illness may have been what initially caused the fight, but it sounds like this might have been a pretty tough bond to begin with. There is a possibility that they just aren’t a good match and/or are holding a grudge over the fight. I think in your case it would…[Read more]

I would wait until you see only positive behaviors and no negative behaviors for at least 48 hrs. Since you’d like to go straight from neutral to the final home it’s important to make sure they are really fully bonded before moving them.

Sometimes moving to a new but still neutral spot can help them sort out final issues and really cement. Is…[Read more]
