we’ve had to start back on panacur. I wish we would have started it again proactively a week ago but the emergency vet did not think it was necessary given he had just completed his treatment.  He’s had a flare up of his EC symptoms and his mobility is down to about 50% now.

The un-scientif name for this is “poop juice”. The strong smell means it comes from the cecum. The cecum is where the rabbit ferment food into cecotropes that they subsequently eat.

Yes, humping means it is time to separate. Humping can quickly escalate into fighting, so it’s best to do it now to avoid any incidents. As the others have said, it will be for the best in the long run.

I agree with the others. You were doing your best and sometimes these things happen. The fact that you are taking such good care of him meant that you were able to discover the fly strike right away, before the maggots could do any serious damage.

If humping has begun, its def time to separate them now. I get that it feels sad to separate them, but its only for a short time. If they can be truly bonded its definitely worth it.

Yes, keep them separated from now on. And to clarify, prebonding means no access to each other at all– just swaps, so having them together in an enclosure is not prebonding.

Well, yes you could start now with prebonding, but you might still see a difference in their reactions post neuter-surgery. Some rabbits get a post-neuter craze phase for a couple of weeks just after their spay/neuter. I’d say divided them no later than at 12 weeks. The fence in the middle need to be double with an inch or so disance between them, or very fine grid to prevent biting through the grids.
