Bit tricky if he already is prone to some sludge 😕. I’m assuming you have tried adding some rolled oats and or sunflower seeds to his diet? It was my go-to with my hard keeper elderbun who I had to struggle to keep over 1500 grams (roughly 1 lb). He also got some carrot every day, although not a lot because its obv sugary.

Hay should not be eliminated from a bun’s diet, because hay is prerty much vital for bun dental- and GI health. There are some things you can do though. I am allergic to timothy hay, and timothy seems to be the type of grass that most allergic people react to. I try not to have timothy hay in my bedroom (or I dry cough all night long). I tolerate…[Read more]

Hmm he has had problems with urine sludge/excess calcium in the urine in the very near past so that worries me a bit. I’ll start off with just mixing a little with his regular hay. He shares everything with his wife so I also have to worry about her calcium intake but she’s also considered a senior so hopefully she’ll be fine.

Alfalfa is recommended for some senior buns that hsve difficulty keeping weight on. The high protein content is good for old bunnies that  to maintain their muscle mass. The thing that’s considered problematic about alfalfa for adult buns is the high calcium content. If you see very thick white pee residue as a result of the alfalfa you could…[Read more]

I brought my rabbits inside January 2023.

they live in my laundry room which also is off my daughters bedroom and playroom. I shut my daughters bedroom door during the day when my bunnies are out, at night they sleep in their cages but my daughter has to have her door open.

my daughter has recently developed seasonal allergies (stuffy nose and…[Read more]

Some buns do appreciate a cat tree, but deoending on which type you choose it might need some modifications in order to be bunny safe. Some buns are not interested in cat trees at all.

This is a very old thread, so I’m going to close it. Please feel free to start a new thread about cat trees, or on other bun topics!

I haven’t personally used a cat tree for rabbits, but I’ve heard of some bunny owners who have had success with it. Rabbits love to climb and explore, so providing them with a cat tree modified to suit their needs could be a great idea.

Hi all. Fresno, who we assume is a senior bunny and has arthritis (now on daily meloxicam for it), is having trouble gaining weight and keeping it on. I had to stop feeding him greens because it was upsetting his tummy and causing mushy poops. He seems to have a sensitive tummy in general. I just started him on Oxbow senior pellets so that might…[Read more]

I’m so sorry you had to deal with this with your cat, it’s truly the worst 💔💔 thank you for the kind words and the tip – I’ll definitely make sure to bug him with my constant recording, even more than I already do 😂❤️

That’s great! Glad to hear he is doing better. Keep in mind he is also 7 years old. Perhaps the stasis triggered other pains in his body, like arthritis pain. Does he have a litter box with a cut out side?

Wonderful news! As his appetite continues to stay normal his poops will likely return to normal. That was a very bad bout of stasis so I wouldn’t be surprised if it took some time. Being in pain can cause buns to lose box habits as well.

Bam replied to the topic Deworming necessary? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 10 months ago

Rabbits do not need routine deworming unless your vet specifically tells you to. You should only deworm if there are visible worms in the poop or a poop sample gas come back positive for worms.

I’m locking this thread now becsuse its very old. Rabbit medicine is a rapidly evolving field so “old” medical advice can very well be outdated by now.…[Read more]

This is a very old thread   so Im closing it now. Rabbits are not highly susceptible to worms, but infestations do occur. Some vets will treat with fenbendazole for 1-2 days, other vets say the worms are harmless. The safest thing is to consult with a bunny savvy vet.

    Update!

The past two days he’s gotten nearly back to normal, his appetite is huge as it always has been, he’s eating pellets, hay and greens in good quantities. His overall mood and activity is also looking completely normal.

The poops haven’t yet returned to normal shapes, but their quantity is good, and today there was yet another big blob…[Read more]

I dont think you can tell buns apart with any certainty apart unless they’ve a microchip or an ear tattoo. I’m sure bun DNA-profiling is possible, but I dont think its in high demand for cost-benefit reasons. Rabbits tend to only murder people as a very last resort, so there’s not much need for bunny DNA evidence in most murder cases. Insurance…[Read more]
