hi! charlie markings are the black and white ones? (sorry, my first language is portuguese and sometimes i can’t get some therms hahahaha)

she’s around 9 months according to her blood test, when i rescued her she was a young rabbit already. i didn’t know some rabbits were diagnosed later! she used to poop double stools and i started to feel her…[Read more]

I’m sorry this happened, and I agree it was not likely due to anything you did. Quality of life is important, and if he loves going outside then I think it’s nice you can do that for him.

I’m curious because 6 months old is pretty young for megacolon to be diagnosed. Most bunnies are not diagnosed until they are a bit older. Does your bunny have the Charlie markings?

Yes, relapses are not uncommon and Bam is correct that sometimes treatment needs to last more than 28 days. I’m sorry this happened, but I don’t think the sun/being outside is necessarily the cause.

Yeah it sucks Maxwell is being a pain haha. I do think they will eventually bond given they have progressed in some ways.

If they don’t end up getting along though, I will get a 4th, but not until I move next summer or fall.

It’s called cecal dysbiosis, sometimes ISC, intermittent soft cecotropes. Poop juice would fall under that category, but cecal dysbiosis doesnt necessarily result in completely liquid cecals. It often presents as clumps of gooey poop that sticks to the bun’s butt. But these terms are really not megacolon-specific.

There are facebook groups for…[Read more]

Hi! Thank you so much for answering, i was truly concerned and i feel relieved now.

May i ask you the scientific or formal name of juicy poop, please. Do you know any article where i can read more about it? Thank you!

Being out in the sun might have cheered him up, and that’s very important too.

I’m sorry you had to put him back on panacur, but relapses are not at all  uncommon. Some vets like to keep a bun on panacur for 5 weeks or longer rather than the standard 28 days. 28 days is just a standard duration of treatment, its not written in stone.

    You really…[Read more]

    Back with another update;

we’ve had to start back on panacur. I wish we would have started it again proactively a week ago but the emergency vet did not think it was necessary given he had just completed his treatment.  He’s had a flare up of his EC symptoms and his mobility is down to about 50% now.

I feel like we took 2 steps forward and…[Read more]

The un-scientif name for this is “poop juice”. The strong smell means it comes from the cecum. The cecum is where the rabbit ferment food into cecotropes that they subsequently eat.

Poop juice can occur in “healthy” buns from time to time, so its not specific for megacolon buns. The cause is believed to be a disruption of the gut…[Read more]

    Hi everyone!

I have a 9 months beautiful girl called Missô and she has been diagnosed with megacolon 3 months ago.

The weird thing is that sometimes (around 2 times in a month), when i’m going to clean Missô’s in the morning, i’ll find little spots of what i think it’s soft poop stains. It does has a strong smell, not unbearable, just like c…[Read more]

Yeah, that’s really tough. I am pretty much in the same position with mine except with the sexes reversed (in that Cooper gets along fine with both girls). Would getting a 4th rabbit to be Snoopy’s companion be an option for you?

Yes, Maxwell and Ruby are still bonded. Ruby and Snoopy are like 99 percent bonded too.

I agree, it was too soon for a marathon, I hoped I’d get lucky:) I’m back to just the boys today. There have been lots of nips again but not really any fur pulled. Snoopy actually groomed Maxwell for a few seconds before another nip. It was scary for me, them…[Read more]

Yes, humping means it is time to separate. Humping can quickly escalate into fighting, so it’s best to do it now to avoid any incidents. As the others have said, it will be for the best in the long run.

I agree with the others. You were doing your best and sometimes these things happen. The fact that you are taking such good care of him meant that you were able to discover the fly strike right away, before the maggots could do any serious damage.

If humping has begun, its def time to separate them now. I get that it feels sad to separate them, but its only for a short time. If they can be truly bonded its definitely worth it.

Yes, keep them separated from now on. And to clarify, prebonding means no access to each other at all– just swaps, so having them together in an enclosure is not prebonding.

You need to wait for the surgeries and at least 1mo post to ensure recovery and hormone regulation.

Them being separated is much better than the stress and pain of them…[Read more]
