Hmmm, did they keep the same routines with him? How many days have you been back? Could they have been giving him extra treats or anything like that while you were gone?
Things to consider are maybe some gas pain or GI upset from getting extra treats or pellets, maybe some routine disruption that has just thrown him off a bit, or potentially even…[Read more]

I’m sorry your bun got diabetes. It is as you say quite uncommon in rabbits (it might be under-dignosed though). I doubt you caused it by feeding her fruit and starchy food -lots and lots of buns get fruit and carby pellets and never develop diabetes. There is most likely genetics at play here, but once you know your bun has diabetes, it is of…[Read more]

Wonderful that he’s eating hay and hasn’t lost weight!
It’s wise to get a lop eared bun’s ear checked (my vet says 1-2 times a year for asymptomatic lops), in order to nip any problems in the bud. You can feel for lumps underneath the ear base yourself (gently, obviously), because its common for wax and debris to deposit there. If you feel…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic How to Help Bunny with Nasal Congestion Until He Sees the Vet? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 8 months ago
You can spray water on hay or steam it, but only prepare small portions at a time, because wet hay spoils quickly, esp if the weather is warm.
You can nebulize a rabbit with saline, but you need a nebulizer.
I hope your vet will see him sooner if he takes a turn for the worse. I agree its not ideal to have to wait 2 weeks.

Hello – me again. 😳
My bunny finished a round of antibiotics almost a month ago and he did well.
However, two days ago, he started sneezing again. His nose sounds congested and so do his sneezes. One nostril is wet. Both his eyes are dry (no leakage). So, I rang the vet yesterday, and they can get him in in 2 weeks. They do not consider it…[Read more]

Hi, I have a mini-lop bunny named Castiel. He is about 3.75 years old and is un-neutered.
I recently returned from a 5-week long trip and my parents had taken care of him while I was gone. Upon returning I noticed that his eating patterns have changed. Normally, before I left, he would run to his feeding corner as soon as he heard me open the…[Read more]

Hi Bam
I was thinking tooth problems and I might ask them to check. But he’s been eating his hay and even more interested in that than his lettuce. Thankfully he’s not lost any weight.
Cinnabun is a lop. I think your right about getting them to check his ears. Hopefully its something small that can be easily figured out. I hate the idea that he…[Read more]

My dwarf bunny was diagnosed with diabetes 2 months ago. The diagnosis was based on the ketones in her urine. I originally took her to an exotic pet specialist vet as I correctly suspected a urinary tract infection. She is so good about using her litter box and was having accidents around the house. This vet said the two conditions often go t…[Read more]

Teeth problems are common in rabbits, so that would be a thing to check. Its not possible to see rabbit molars without an otoscope, and even with an otoscope it can be difficult to get a good view. Even very tiny molar sours can cause a rabbit pain. Does he eat his hay now? Has he lost weight?
Most rabbit illness first manifest as partial or…[Read more]

koki started the topic Rabbit less energetic than usual. in the forum BEHAVIOR 2 years, 8 months ago
So maybe like a month ago my rabbit Koki got spayed and she recovered fine and had been doing fine for a while until recently. Like 2 days ago she randomly started acting a bit lethargic. She just lays down or sleeps all day which is weird because she’s usually very chaotic and always finds stuff to do but she just isn’t as energetic. She still…[Read more]

Yes, I’ve decided asking for a setup picture is the only non-intrusive way to know what they have going on. After that, I will definitely run it through a few reverse image search websites, just to make sure it’s not a random picture they got off the internet.

Hi everyone
My rabbit Cinnabun stopped eating Friday night. I immediately started giving belly massages and syringe feeding critical care with baby gas drops. By the next night he was able to start eating herbs a little bit and now he’s eating and drinking all by himself just fine.
In the past when he’s had gas I’ve syringe fed and he’s b…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic bunny urinating on their bed in the forum BEHAVIOR 2 years, 8 months ago
Yep, agree, many buns just don’t do well with soft surfaces, despite the portrayal on the internet! If they seem happy on the floor then no need to worry 🙂
Agree that giving hides as well as a possible elevated place to sleep is more important than a bed. You could experiment with dif surfaces if you want. Memory foam bathmats can work well as…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunny’s eye looks torn and bloody in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 8 months ago
This is something that should be seen by a vet ASAP. Especially without pictures it’s hard to say, but there are a couple of things it could be (a condition called “cherry eye” is one possibility, where the tear duct detaches and pokes out, or an injury to the third eyelid). They can be treated but do need prompt vet attention.

Unfortunately many buns like to urinate on soft things like beds. Some buns like to shred soft beds and cushions and pull out the fluffy stuffing . The beds that have worked best for my buns are the little wooden doll beds. I put pieces of vet bed in them, but some buns like to pee on vet beds too.
Rabbits dont need soft places to sleep on, and…[Read more]
