Yes, I was going to ask if it has been warm there? I know a lot of areas have been going through a heat wave lately. When it’s warm, bunnies tend to lay around even more than usual. As Bam said though, it isn’t unusual for bunnies to be lazy during the day anyway.

Tooth roots can cause respiratory problems like discharge and sneezing. What happens is the tooth roots invade the sinuses and cause irritation. Stuff can build up in there and it can lead to an infection. I had a bunny like this and he was always a little snuffly. Sometimes he would need antibiotics because an infection would develop. But that…[Read more]

I’ve seen beds with a wooden frame and fleece fabric stretched across it to create a “hammock”. Those are perfectly fine. Just keep in mind that some bunnies tend to chew on fabrics. So make sure it is something safe, like fleece. And if they chew on it too much, then you’ll just have to take it away. If I gave my bunny something like that, he…[Read more]

Can you see the back of his eye? Could he be developing a cataract in that eye?

I don’t have any knowledge of vet costs in Canada. I can tell you though that your bunny will need to see a vet. Unfortunately, drooling like this is most likely a dental problem of some sort. If she is sneezing, then tooth roots could be involved as well (tooth roots can overgrow into the sinuses). Is she still eating OK? Are the bunnies…[Read more]

The C&C cages are designed for guinea pigs mostly. Guinea pigs can’t jump, so the sides are only 13 inches tall. That’s way too short for a bunny. A pen that is 6′ x 2′ is pretty big for a guinea pig, but bunnies (especially 2) are going to need more room width-wise (i.e. not long and skinny). I think you would get a much better value if you buy…[Read more]

Question,
Is this a good cage for two tiny/small rabbits that are bonded?
I found this online: C&C 6×2 Cage
and look at the 6×2 cage for bunnies. They have very large cages and play pens for rabbits (note, the rabbit(s) need to be small or tiny, possibly small/medium breeds, definitely not medium/large or XL large like Flemish…[Read more]

Hello. My four year old spayed female rabbit (Holland Lop) has wet fur under her chin/left cheek. At first I noticed hair loss under the chin and recently it seems that her left cheek is also constantly wet (However, I have noticed that when she drinks water her left cheeks is dripping wet so I am not sure if it is a dental issue). She has also…[Read more]

Hi again and thanks for you advice! Yes, I would not leave wet hay just laying around due to spoilage. Always a good point to make.
As my gut feeling told me, this issue would progress, and I would need the vet sooner.
The respiratory issue has stabilized or mostly subsided but he is not eating again. He will pick at his food, GO CRAZY for a…[Read more]

Hi! My rabbit Biscuit, neutered and 7 years old, has been closing his eyes quite a bit, and when I check, his eye seems fine, with no scratches, no swelling, or tears. He has also been acting normal. He opens his eyes sometimes, though it is slightly closed compared to his other eye, or he will squint or keep it shut.
I know that he is getting…[Read more]

This actually doesn’t ring any bells. An adult bun tends to lounge pretty much all day and become more active in the evening. Rabbits are crepuscular, meaning they’re most active around dusk and dawn. They will adapt to an extent to the daily rythm of their humans. You might say rabbits are the ideal pets for people with 8-5 jobs. Between 8-5,…[Read more]

Hmmm, did they keep the same routines with him? How many days have you been back? Could they have been giving him extra treats or anything like that while you were gone?
Things to consider are maybe some gas pain or GI upset from getting extra treats or pellets, maybe some routine disruption that has just thrown him off a bit, or potentially even…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Anyone here have a rabbit with diabetes ? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 7 months ago
I’m sorry your bun got diabetes. It is as you say quite uncommon in rabbits (it might be under-dignosed though). I doubt you caused it by feeding her fruit and starchy food -lots and lots of buns get fruit and carby pellets and never develop diabetes. There is most likely genetics at play here, but once you know your bun has diabetes, it is of…[Read more]
