I approved this just to adress your last sentence, but will close this thread to keep replies in one thread.
You seem like a very caring rabbit owner. You didnt purposely starve your bun. It is difficult to keep track of everybunny’s individual hay consumption when you have more than one bun. You got them a sitter for when you were away -it is…[Read more]

My baby starved to death with unlimited food. The vet couldn’t find a thing wrong with her… she just had absolutely no body fat.
We have three rabbits. We had three rabbits.
One of our rabbits was overweight and the other two were getting there, so we had them on a no-pellets diet our vet approved. We gave them each 3-5 handfuls of…[Read more]

I’m so sorry. The guilt is immense, I know. I feel it too.
She sounded like a great bunny, and you loved her very much. Sometimes we don’t have the information we need to give the best care possible to our babies. But that doesn’t mean you didn’t love her deeply and give her the best care you knew to give, or that you’re not capable of learning…[Read more]

I’m very sorry this happened to you and your bun.
Starvation is mainly a risk when you abruptly change a rabbit over to a hay only diet (leafy greens more of enrichment than an important source of nutrients). So I’m thinking your bun could have had a minor dental problem that made her reluctant to eat hay. Sometimes even the smallest molar spurs…[Read more]

Yes that is Cosmo! ^^ And yes he’s been to the vet twice. I have an appointment on October 26th for a check up for a neuter. But that’s a day before his first birthday so I didn’t want to have to wait until then to get advice. I can’t do anything about the date because they have a packed schedule. That’s interesting but I don’t see how it’s okay f…[Read more]

<p style=”padding-left: 40px;”>Assuming Cosmo is the bunny in your profile picture I must say he’s adorable! Has he seen a rabbit savvt vet yet? It can be extremely difficult to judge the weight of rabbits and just like humans, some of them carry their weight on different parts of the bodies and in different ways. One of mine has bony shoulder…[Read more]

When choosing a pellet brand, look for ones that are primarily hay based. No “fun” colorful bits or seeds.
Sherwood and Garden Select are two good ones.

My Mini Lop Cosmo is 11 months and weighs 5 pounds but still has very prominent bones and I just can’t seem to get him to put on that weight. I could tell that his bones got bigger but the fat went down and even his tummy isn’t as plump as it always was. So I thought maybe he needs more in his diet. As of right now I feed him 4 tbsp alfalfa pel…[Read more]

OMG! So cute! Thank you for saving her! I agree, it would be hard to not want to keep her. Definitely not a Rex. But… do I detect some wispy hairs between her ears and on the back of her neck? It almost looks like it in the pictures.
You’re going to want to get her into a more permanent setup. You can continue using the dog kennel if you wish…[Read more]

Ah, that’s good to know and probably for the best. A very sad outcome for everyone involved 🙁 . I hope the dog can end up in a good home that doesn’t have other pets.
I agree rabbits are wonderful late night companions :). I do think fostering might be a good option for you!

Thank you for saving her and welcome! Cookies is an adorable name, she looks a lot like my Cooper! She doesn’t look like a rex to me, likely she’s a mix. Rex buns have very short plush fur, it feels like velvet.
I recommend checking out the sections in the rabbit info section: https://binkybunny.com/house-rabbit-information/
There are tips on…[Read more]

Rabbits do love to be up at night! And of course it wasn’t the dog’s fault, it was just being a dog, probably also a bit confused by being in a new unfamiliar place (I feel sad for the dog too). I had a dog when I got my first rabbit (stray rabbit). It took some time and patience to get my dog to understand that the rabbit was not a toy – even…[Read more]

Thank you for saving this bunny!
She is truly adorable! I can’t say what breed she is, but she is most likely a mix. She looks young, but not a baby. How much would you estimate that she weighs? Rabbits that have been living feral tend to be a lot skinnier than house rabbits, due to skinny food (grass, mainly) and lots of “exercise”.
It seems…[Read more]

Hello! I’m a first-time rabbit caretaker, and this is my first time posting on the forum.
So my story is that my family started noticing rabbits (and some quite obviously domestic rabbits) in our suburban neighborhood when there haven’t ever been any before, but they were also disappearing shortly after we’d see them a few times. (We think they…[Read more]
