Monkeybun started the topic My Moosie… in the forum RAINBOW BRIDGE 6 years, 5 months ago

Binky bunny friends, I haven’t been here for awhile, but many of you know me and my buns from way back. You saw me adopt my Monkey, who passed a few years ago, then when adopted Moosie, who I tried bonding to Monkey.

Moosie passed on the 17th, with the most bunnitude he ever showed. He knew he was king of the house, showing me and my ex, who has…[Read more]

I forgot to mention he has developed one sore hock on one of his back feet. And I’ve read that skin sores are also a symptom of snuffles. I am really sad as tonight I was grooming him and checked his nose and he seems to have a little bit of a wet nose now. I’m very scared from all the things I’ve read about snuffles. Is it really lifelong? Can a…[Read more]

I don’t know if famotidine has the motility benefits of ranitidine, but nothing changed for Teddy when we made the switch.

Apparently it does! They’re known as H2-receptor antagonists that work on the smooth muscle in the lower end of GI tract. I dont know if one is more effective over the other. But they both also are antacids.

    The ra…[Read more]

I’m so very sorry for your loss. This does sound like it could’ve been RVHD. Practically the same thing happened to a friend of mine, three rabbits died in three days, one after the other. We have RVHD here, the dead rabbits were not vaccinated. There is currently no vaccine available in the USA.

I don’t know if you could have a live rabbit…[Read more]

If he drinks from a bowl, do you think offering a sipper bottle also could intice him? He may be curious enough to try it or prefer the flow as opposed to sticking his fuzzy head in the water.

Thank you both so much!!  🙂  This is so, so helpful.  I’ll experiment with fluids once a day now, and see how that goes.  I really appreciate your advice!  I searched the internet high and low and couldn’t find anything else on this question.  You are so generous to help so many bunnies and their humans in need of guidance!!  🙂

Thank you SO much, Kate!!!  Your advice and moral support was just such a lifesaver during this ordeal!  You’re so kind.  🙂

Yes, we’re so lucky about the meds!!  Teddy has stayed on daily meloxicam (just 0.35 CCs) plus ranitidine or famotidine once a day over the past year, but he’s been a doll as you say, and eaten them off a plate or san…[Read more]

Thanks for the update.  Teddy is a star!!! That is so great he is being a doll about the meds. Means for less stressed humans and less stressed bunny!

How did you find the famotidine in comparison to the ranitadine? Do you think it’s been helpful?  I suppose with all the meds he was on, its hard to gauge just want med is most effective.

Romaine lettuce is a good starter green, although it seems that all greens have some diuretic properties, some more then others! At his age, I think the key is in how much you give him. You’ll want to introduce new greens one by one. But ideally, you’ll want him to consume more hay. What type of hay had he had so far?

    Wick had some success…[Read more]

Oh Teddy!!! Im really pleased to read how he is going!  I think you were dealing this when the forum shut down weren’t you?

Since he is eating greens and getting the fluids twice a day, could you cut that back to once a day and see if he starts to drink  more? I would ring your vet and ask best way to go about it and how long before you should l…[Read more]

Hi Meg! It’s very possible the subq fluids are suppressing the urge to drink. If that’s the case, I doubt you will see him drinking much. Instead of going cold turkey, you could try reducing how much he receives each day to see what happens.

I agree! His scent glands look like they are clogged. JG provided good advice above.

    Hi Kayso

This looks like his anal scent glands. They can get some build up of a waxy, smelly substance here. Some rabbits never get much and others will get build up and need help cleaning it out. Rabbit Info tab at top of page has section on monthly maintanence that instructs how to go about this. It’s not something that should need to be done…[Read more]

Revolution is topical but you wont need to worry about him grooming it off. Its placed back or neck or between shoulder blades and they cannot quite reach there.  I tend to put it on patch where there is little fur or cut I fur away because it seems to get soaked right into the fur. It still works if it does, I just like to try make sure there is…[Read more]

It’s definitely something to watch as a new rabbit owner. The real concern is when they stop eating AND pooping. If that had been 12 hours then it would warrant a visit to the vet. Because your guy has been eating, i do think it’s due to his settling in. Hopefully by now his gut if functioning at normal pace and you’ve seen a lot more healthy…[Read more]

I didn’t even know such a thing existed!  I wouldn’t invest in one for a rabbit.  tbh.  I think most will not like the sensation of the “ground” moving underneath them. The have such a different gait to a cat also.

You might get the occasional rabbit that would try it out (Im thinking of Bini the Bunny!) but seriously doubt they’d stay on th…[Read more]
