DanaNM replied to the topic Ideas for obsessive litter box chewing and digging in cage corner in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 6 years, 5 months ago
I have just started seeing those products at the shelter where I volunteer, I’ll have to see where they got them since the seem to be a UK thing.
I think the litter box chewing is related to the digging because he used to dig in the far back corner, but now the litter box is covering that spot (I flipped the organization when I bonding him with…[Read more]

Ughhhh I hate when they get stuck in a habit.
Is the digging one corner or just wherever he feels like on that level? You could try to change the floor to a different substrate which might interrupt him enough to get him to stop?
I have seen some pretty clever covered dig boxes so the rabbit has to enter a like a sealed off chamber : https://www.…[Read more]

Hi guys 🙂
Some of you may remember that Bun Jovi has always had this habit of “digging” in his condo on the slippery linoleum. He has free roam most of the day and his condo is huge, but he will do this even when the door is open. We think it may have been a habit he picked up from being confined in a previous home?
He also has been obsessively…[Read more]

Bella The Bunny replied to the topic Litter box Training: How many droppings outside the box are normal? in the forum BEHAVIOR 6 years, 5 months ago
I have 2 bonded rabbits named Bella & Buddy! The normal dropping number outside of the litter boxes is like 5-10 a day. I find that sometimes some rabbits are less coordinated than others, so they will hop in the litter and the poop won’t come out all the way and when they jump out it will fall on to the floor. The rabbit might be doing the right…[Read more]

We had a bit of trouble post-op; she stopped eating completely so I had to syringe feed Critical Care. She was also on Metacam for 4 days but I have stopped this now as she doesn’t seem to be in much pain. It is hard to put her behaviour down to one thing as she only had her operation a week ago but also lost her partner on the same day 🙁 she…[Read more]

Beau Bunny started the topic Garden exercise pen covers- ideas? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 6 years, 5 months ago
Hi everyone, I have an outside playpen so Beau can get some fresh air and enjoy nice weather. I live in a fairly urban environment and there are really no daytime predators to speak of- Beau has two trusty guard dogs to chase off any stray cats- but I’m concerned about hawks. If I need to use the restroom or distracted with yard work I’ll clo…[Read more]

I’m glad your bunny is improving! It can take a while for a sprain to heal, 2 weeks is not uncommon. A human would probably get one of those big boots, but rabbits are not very accepting of casts and splints, so it’s often best to leave things be. The important thing is that he eats, drinks , goes potty and can wash himself. Hopefully by now you…[Read more]

I had a quick look at your other thread about this. Its good its not turning into a fight and they settle down.
I do agree it could be the time of year that has set this off some. Has there been any other changes at home? A new pet? Or even moving their hutch or other furniture can put a nose out of joint!
Regarding their hutch, is it big…[Read more]

I’m normally one to advocate to adopt already desexed rabbit, but right now, that is not much of an option. There may be an influx of rabbits coming in post-Easter. Often they will be young rabbits starting to act out.
It is no guarantee that Cooper will automatically accept a new companion even if it is already desexed. But it does mean you can…[Read more]

It really is. Especially as everything is so out so the norm currently around the world.
How has her recovery been? Did they give you some pain meds to take home for her. Her behaviour could certainly be due to losing her friend but it could also be related to the spay. If she is feeling some discomfort. Or if she’s reacting the changing…[Read more]

It doesnt sound like there is any disruption to their normal life then. Sometimes the barbering can happen if the “barber” is stressed, or has some physical discomfort. It can be difficult to try deter the behaviour, especially in a bonded pair!
You try applying an ointment to the skin there. It would help her skin, but could have the added…[Read more]

Yes of course! They’re approaching one year old, been together their whole life.
They have access to our entire house, free roam as they please. Only health issues they have had previously, is after she was spayed, she went into a bit of shock, and ended up with gutstasis, but this was a while ago, and have been fit and well since.
There has b…[Read more]

It does look reddish. I would guess at him grooming her there too much. Its also referred to as “barbering”.
Can you tell us more about them in general? Their age, how long they’ve been together, awhat space they have access to, any health issues either have had before etc. Could there be any new sources of stress in the home? (Grooming can…[Read more]
