Bunny Bride started the topic Rabbit making strange sound, like when a cat has a hairball…. in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years, 5 months ago
I have noticed this on two days, about a week or so apart. On those mornings I heard my rabbit make a weird sound, similar to someone trying to cough something up—pretty identical to the cat hairball sound. On both days he made the sound intermittently, starting once every 10 minutes, then going to roughly once in an hour, and then disappearing. S…[Read more]

That’s wonderful! Way to go!
About how long are they spending together in this new space? I like to make sure the positive progress is “cemented” before moving forward, meaning you see the same behaviors repeated a few dates in a row. If they are able to spend 4-6 hours together with no aggression then you are prob ready to do longer sessions or…[Read more]

Hi Autumn,
Ok that’s great! 🙂 Yes as long as she has a good appetite for hay and clean water she will be just fine for the time being. I will sometimes even skip a veggie or pellet ration with my buns if I feel I need to boost up their hay consumption (but I know my buns are good hay eaters so it’s safe to do so).
Depending on where you are,…[Read more]

On the topic of Timothy or grass hay, you can get it from the pet store or if you have a feed store near you (not sure what country you’re in but in the US think Tractor Supply or Murdoch’s) you can get an entire 50 lb bale for under $20. I have a really big Rubbermaid container next to the bunny’s house and I just leave the lid cracked so the hay…[Read more]

Thank you so much for replying!!
My bunny is always provided with Timothy hay 24/7. The typical veggies I give to her is either the spring mix which is already made for you or the Romaine lettuce hearts which I rinsh and cut up for her. For snack time I usually do feed her pellets, but I unfortunately ran out.So I figured that maybe fruit could…[Read more]

Hi DanaNM and LBJ10
Wow, thank you very much for your opinions on the harness. Yes I would never want to put Loofah in danger, he’s far too special 🙂
I am going to focus on getting him used to being touched and picked up for these reasons you mention as at the moment I can’t imagine being able to clip his nails. It is great to know that rabbits…[Read more]

I’m so glad she took a treat! How is she doing now?
Rabbits hear frequencies that the human ear is capable of picking up. They also have a very much more sophisticated sense of smell than we have. So if a sound or a scent scares a rabbit, it can very well be something we humans can’t hear or smell.
My bunny Bam once had a fit of thumping fright…[Read more]

Update: I just heard Oliver (one of my other two buns) sneeze a couple times 😥 That’s how Louie started out.
Should I just go ahead and start him on the Oral trimeth/sulfamethox that Louie is on before I can get a vet appointment?
If it’s pasturella he must have got it from Louie 🙁 He’s been having little eye crusties too…[Read more]

Just re-read your earlier post that you used shavings before. If you still have some, I think a quick experiment you could try is:
-put the bigger box in cage instead of triangular one.
-line it with newspaper and good layer of the shavings.
-keep her cage floor bare for now.
-put hay in one end of litterbox or in rack hanging above…[Read more]

Certain veggies do seem to be in short supply right now. Are people panic-buying produce now?
I absolutely agree with Dana. Not having veggies or very many veggies for a while is not the end of the world. Hay is the most important part of any rabbit’s diet. They should be allowed to eat as much as they want. Pellets can help supplement their…[Read more]

You could put the wood pellets in a bucket and add a little hot water to expand them. They’ll break down to a sawdust (ironically) but still be dry enough to act as a litter. I would try that in the litterboxes. That will feel more familiar to her. If she prefers that, you could slowly start adding the solid pellets so it’s mix and she gets use…[Read more]

Hi Autumn,
Welcome to the forum. 🙂
If you check out the “Diet” section under the “Bunny Info” tab at the top, you will find detailed information on the correct diet for bunnies.
Very importantly, your bunny needs to have grass hay available to her 24/7, it should make up about 75-80% of the diet. If she is young (under 1 year), she can also…[Read more]
