Nobody told us it was a boy, I guess we’ve just been calling it a boy, not sure why. I was hoping it wasn’t a girl because I really hope she didn’t have a nest of babies when we caught her. If she did, then there’s no way they could survive on their own. Also, if she isn’t fixed, I heard she would have a high chance of cancer.
    But she’s get…[Read more]

Hi, I’m a new bunny mom (adopted Louie two weeks ago). Just joined the forum, wanted to introduce Louie! He is about five months old, and the shelter told us he is a Havana. I’ve done plenty of research but we’re always ready for new tips!

Are the gas drops the meds the vet gave you? Simethicone is a very common, over the counter baby gas drop medication that is safe for rabbits to use, and I think the large majority of rabbit owners have it on hand for gas episodes! If you found gas drops helped, you can purchase/order it and administer it orally yourself to your rabbit. It is not…[Read more]

Dana’s personal anecdote re: Myra reminded me of the journey I’ve been on with my second rabbit, Fable. I adopted her from a foster September 2019. She would either 1) run away from you approaching anywhere near her or 2) submit to pets and begin to literally hyperventilate and tense up as you did it. It was really jarring, because my Wick (other…[Read more]

Young rabbits (8 weeks to 6mo’s, I’d say) are generally more energetic… as young children do, haha. During this time period, Wick (my ND) did flop occasionally, but he was never really one to zoomie in the first place.

He is now approaching 3.5 years old now and is pretty much the most lazy rabbit I’ve ever experienced. For one, he doesn’t chew…[Read more]

Oof. I hope they drop for him soon, if they haven’t! I think my Wick has the record of not dropping until 8 months, haha (superrr late. Definitely not the norm). Notably, rabbits can suck them back into themselves, so it’s possible they may have, but whenever they are stressed at the vet’s office for example, they might retract them. Just…[Read more]

I find getting the container that has no noticeable bad lettuce in it (it tends to spread fast if already there) and with as little condensation in the container as possible helps. Also, when I get home, I immediately vent open the lid and keep it partially open in the fridge to allow that air circulation to mitigate water rotting the mix very…[Read more]

I just got my bunny 10 days ago, and the hay is a lot to handle! I bought a big twenty-five-pound box from my local co-op type place and I store the huge thing in my garage. I bought a nice big clear bin w/ lid from Target for about 8 bucks, and once a week I go to my garage and refill it with hay and bedding for my bun.

I just adopted my bunny Louie, he is five months old. When we adopted him two weeks ago from the shelter, he was eating alfalfa-based “young rabbit food” and was on timothy hay. Right now I have him eating timothy hay and timothy hay in his litter box, and I have been feeding him 1/8 cup of Oxbow Garden Select Young Rabbit food. It’s timothy and…[Read more]

Thanks! Now I feel better! When you have no first hand idea what “normal” really is it can be a little hard. He’s definitely about the cuddle life, though he does do occasional speed loops and wiggle dance parties. He also is convinced he is a great climber, he isn’t but I haven’t the heart to tell him yet…

I didn’t know they were a thing until her breeder. But she’s turning out to be an amazing service dog. A lot of people give me flack for her color but she’s my baby so meh.

She also has an instagram where I post all of her pictures. @waverly.adventures

It can indicate hormonal changes, yes. Sometimes there will be changes to uterine tissue and mammary tissue at same time. From age 3 onward, intact female rabbits have much higher risk of developing uterine cancer, and it other uterine disorders.

Is she your only rabbit? Sometimes when an intact rabbit goes through false pregnancy, they can have…[Read more]

I use a big opaque rubbermaid tub. I just slide it over to the bun’s area to refill hay (I’m in a small apartment too!). It still makes a mess but is a lot better than the cardboard box situation that I used to have too.

Spring mix is awesome for convenience, but mine always goes bad really quickly! There is one type of lettuce in there that always goes slimy and I end up having to sort through it all. Romaine has pretty good shelf-life in the fridge though (I’ve had heads last a couple weeks easy when they are bought fresh). You could also grow some edible weeds,…[Read more]

Sounds normal to me! I think most bunnies won’t jump on or over something they aren’t 100% sure about, they have to be able to see where they are going clearly.

Some buns just love the cuddle life. Love that picture! Those little feet! <3
