Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I don’t want him to be suspicious of me trying to grab him, I just want to be able to pick him up without a struggle for things like nail clippings. I’m slowly letting him warm up to my holding him, by petting him on his tummy and near where I would be picking him up, just without lifting him off the ground.…[Read more]

Neither our regular vet nor the specialist saw spurs on her teeth. We will see what the vet says in the morning. Keeping my fingers crossed I can bring my girl home tomorrow and get her back to normal as soon as possible.

I agree with Wick. This probably has nothing to do with you (“personally”) or the fact she is deaf. Sensing an unfamiliar rabbit is enough to put a bunny of edge. In fact, there have even been stories of a bonded pair suddenly fighting because a new bunny was brought home.

I agree with Dana. Nothing wrong with waiting a little longer.

From the picture, it does almost look like water and “hay dust”. I know a lot of people don’t like water bottles because bunnies tend to drink less when they have them. But… you might try one to see if his chin is still wet.

Oh absolutely! You shouldn’t pick your bunny up all the time, especially not for the sake of picking them up to cuddle them or whatever. I don’t know any bunny that likes to be picked up. Some can come to tolerate it though. If they do, it makes it so much easier to hold them when it’s necessary. Doesn’t mean you won’t get foot flicks afterward…[Read more]

Yeah don’t go for the surgery. The odds for a rabbit to recover from that kind of procedure are small. That should be the very last resort and should only be done if you know for sure there is a complete blockage and after all other options have been exhausted. Be careful with that vet, they seem a bit trigger happy.

hahhaa that is soo cute, she’s just checking and making sure you’re alive and well! 🙂
idk if this is normal or weird but my little bun hops and zooms all around my bedroom and then plops himself in front of the mirror and stares at himself for a bit – he looks so serene but serious, like he’s contemplating life hahaha

Ditto everything Dana said. I’ve experienced the same with my bun. Since I hardly ever pick him up he’s not suspicious of my hands in the slightest, so if I do have to scoop him up for some reason it’s a done deal before he even realizes what’s going on. Easy peasy.

Thank you for getting back to me and putting things in perspective. I made the mistake of giving up on Hunny when my mom gave me the latest update. I don’t want to do that anymore. I want to do whatever it takes to keep my precious girl in my family. I just want her happy and healthy again.
I’m just very worried about the dental stuff. Vet said…[Read more]

Ok, first of all, whoa.
I would NOT go for the invasive surgery. If she pooped, she is not blocked. And my vet usually encourages syringe feeding and fluids to treat fur blocks anyway, to push things through. (for context my vet is amazing and has worked with my rabbit rescue for over 20 years).
Recovery from stasis can be very slow and gradual,…[Read more]

Just to add a bit more info (not to complicate things), I checked with my vet and he does spay between 4-6 months, but bases it mostly on weight, so they have to be over 2 lbs.
I believe the standard is to limit exercise for 7- 10 days post-spay, so I would imagine she would be pretty much back to normal after that.
Here’s a good resource about…[Read more]

I just don’t know what to do anymore. We took Hunny to the specialist but weren’t allowed inside with her because of COVID. My family was sent home with the knowledge Hunny would be anesthetized and given an x-ray. Blood work would be done. Hunny would have to spend the night, possibly longer.
Vet said Hunny’s teeth were filed down unnecessarily…[Read more]

yeah, I have started looking on Petfinder… but then I got attached to another bun, not even a bun.<u style=”font-weight: bold;”>a pair.</u> (but they aren’t bonded yet) so I could probably adopt one and not the other? I don’t know, that was my other question. and yeah! It seems like they might be warming up to the idea so thanks for all the advi…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic My deaf rabbit has become nervous in the forum BEHAVIOR 6 years, 4 months ago
Did you recently get the male rabbit?
The nervousness may be stemming from a new rabbit. Even if you were not actively bonding them yet, she most likely immediately sensed, smelled, and heard once he entered her space. If you have been trying to pick her up every day to put her in a shared run for bonding, I can definitely imagine she’d want to…[Read more]

That makes sense. I would like her to be spayed before I go back to classes in late august so i can be with her to recover. How long is the recovery, like fully back to normal nothing can go wrong?
