Do they let you pet them while sitting on the ground? If so then I don’t think all these methods are necessary… you prob just need to find a different brush that doesn’t bother them. I don’t hold them, I just sit next to them on the ground. Whenever I’ve had buns that like petting, I’ve been able to find a brushing method that they will tolerate…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for your loss. 🙁

Is your remaining bun eating and pooping ok? I think rehoming at this moment would be more stressful for her, because she also has a relationship with you and her home. But in the meantime you can spend extra time with her, and make sure she is still eating. Depression can lead to stasis so you need to keep her…[Read more]

So it sounds like you got lucky with some bunnies that just got along well! Some bunnies do just go together like that, but it’s rare! But, the fact that he is un-neutered means the humping will likely continue. Are you able to get him neutered? If they are both still mounting each other a lot sometimes one rabbit will get fed up and fights can…[Read more]

Poor thing, I’m sorry. 🙁  Agree with LBJ, this kind of break would be difficult to set properly without surgery. Assuming the surgery goes smoothly, she should heal quite well given her age, so it’s mainly a money issue. Some vets are willing to do a payment plan, maybe that would be an option? I wouldn’t go for the amputation, her odds of…[Read more]

I know there have been members on the forum in the past where their bunny had a broken leg. These bunnies received a cast/splint and were kept in a confined area. I don’t recall any of the cases being a femur though. Being so high up on the leg, I think it would be hard to set it correctly. This may be why the vet suggested surgery.

    6/7 updates:

hello again! so after the vet examined Ollie again she went ahead and prescribed some more of the Griseofulvin oral medicine, as the flakiness on his ears was still evident. To me, it looks like it is slowly getting better – and I am thankful the issue hasn’t spread to anywhere else on his body. He had some fur that was lost in the…[Read more]

Young rabbits that are still growing can be free fed. They can have as many pellets as they want as long as they still eat plenty of hay. Most brands carry a young/junior formula, which is typically alfalfa-based.

Adult rabbits should have limited pellets. How much depends on the weight of the rabbit and the brand of pellets. Each brand is going…[Read more]

I will see if I can try those things once my girl comes home. It’s hard not to lose faith during this process. We don’t know if it’s even GI stasis, so it’s tough to see a way out of this, let alone one that’s positive. I still hope and pray and am so thankful for your advice! I’ll do whatever it takes to help Hunny as best I can! I admit I’m…[Read more]

My bunny broke a nail a couple of days ago because they were too long. It was bleeding quite a lot. He’s a very squirmy bunny so it’s really hard to cut his nails and no vets would do it right now. Today because he broke another nail, I decided to try for the 5th time and somehow I managed to cut them all a little (I wasn’t sure how far to go or…[Read more]

She’s so young. Broken bones tend to heal quickly in young rabbits. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how well a splint would work on the femur. Did you talk to the vet about trying to support the bone externally?

    Hi,

looking for advice or past experience. Yesterday my 10 week old female mink lip rabbit broke her back right femur. Vet said 3 options are amputate, operate and fix it or put her to sleep. The first 2 options are incredibly expensive. I was just wondering if there was another option and maybe letting it heal by itself and limit her movement?…[Read more]

Well if the vet can’t get the critical care into her anyway then there really isn’t much point in keeping her there. I think you’re right, the stress of being in a strange place with strange people could be hindering her progress. If there’s nothing the vet is doing that you can’t handle at home, I would take her home as soon as possible. You can…[Read more]

How old is your rabbit? Rabbits dont have heat cycles like dogs do, they are what is known as induced ovulation. That means some form of outward stimuli can trigger ovulation. It’s very often unclear what sets this off if there are no other rabbits in the vicinity.

It does sound like sexually motivated behaviour, circling and following and…[Read more]

for adult rabbits, they should be provided UNLIMITED hay and water, a good portion of veggies depending on what you want, and about 1/4 cup of high-quality timothy pellets each day. The Oxbow pellets are very good quality, my bunny loves them. For a baby bunny, it depends on age. Baby bunnies should eat alfalfa hay until they reach their “peak”…[Read more]

Still no poops from Hunny, according to the tech who called us a few minutes ago. Hunny is apparently peeing a little and eating the newspaper they put in her cage there, but she’s still not defecating. I’m getting nervous and feeling more and more defeated and at a loss.

When we kept Hunny at our regular vet just for the day last week, she…[Read more]
