I had two Dutch rabbits mother 5years and daughter 3years , unfortunately the mother had to be put to sleep today due to having cancer 😔 we were not able to bring her body back so her daughter could say her final goodbyes 😔 so now my rabbit appears extremely depressed looking for her mum 😭 I am trying to find her another rabbit to be bonded with (on advice from the vet) however I can not find another rabbit anywhere. Would it cause her more heartache if I rehomed her somewhere with other rabbits? I don’t want her to feel like she’s lost her mum and now I’m abandoning her 😭 I’m absolutely heartbroken about all of this and can’t bare losing two rabbits but if it’s for the best I will let her go 😭😭

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know she is binkying free.

I’m not positive, but rehoming her may cause even more stress because she is unfamiliar with the new rabbits and people. Have you tried petfinder to find more rabbits near you? Another question, were these rabbits spayed. Uterine cancer causes the majority of deaths in unspayed rabbits.

Is your remaining bun eating and pooping ok? I think rehoming at this moment would be more stressful for her, because she also has a relationship with you and her home. But in the meantime you can spend extra time with her, and make sure she is still eating. Depression can lead to stasis so you need to keep her eating.

Some people will give grieving rabbits a stuffy to cuddle with, just be sure she doesn’t chew it. I’ve done this before, and I would make the stuffy rabbit cuddle up and groom my widowed rabbit, and she would groom it back a little.

Agree with the others, I don’t think rehoming would be good for her. She needs extra love from you and time to get over her loss. It might not be a bad thing that you can’t find a new mate for her right now. Bonding is stressful and she’s already stressed after losing her mom. Let her calm down and get used to the situation, you’ll come across an adoptable rabbit eventually.
