Yeah. There’s only two local shelters sadly, and one is just for dogs. The other usually doesn’t have any small pets. 🙁 I wish I could meet my friend’s bunny, but my parents never let me go to other people’s houses. I’m not allowed to go to sleepovers, either.

awww that’s too bad to hear. if you want to hang around and visit bunnies, you can always check out volunteering opportunities at local rabbit rescues or animal shelters!

Health problems definitely can affect bonding! Sorry he’s doing poorly but glad you picked up on it. It is very possible he was extra cranky because he was in pain. I had a pair where one bun had dental issues and whenever he needed dental work it would affect the bond (they would bicker). I suspect when a bun is in pain they feel much more…[Read more]

Hi, Sorry I somehow missed the new reply. The vet is treating for EC mostly because of the new bunny in the house I think. He just finished his 10 day course of fenbendazole and metacam and it was amazing. He ate his pellets yesterday but hasn’t ate any pellets today but is munching on hay and a small piece of banana I gave him. Should I feed him some critical care if he doesn’t eat his pellets by the end of the day?

My carpet-chewers liked cardboard cat scratchers as a safe alternative. Then I cover up “hot spots” with heavy ceramic tiles. Buns tend to get obsessed over specific spots so blocking those spots can help.

@Cassie my brain went to EC as well. I agree that this is def worth a visit to a bun savvy vet.

I would make sure they cannot have any face to face interactions until she is spayed. You might even want to minimize pre-bonding for now if they are acting stressed about it, as she will smell very differently after she is spayed. Some say immune supplements should be avoided, because many of the ill effects of ec are due to the body’s own immuno reaction. I’m not sure though, I doubt the immuno supplements sold for rabbits would make much of a difference in either direction.

This made me get flash backs to one of my rabbits. She was clean one week and the next she had urine all over her rear end. She was also acting normal too like eating a pooping good it was just her dirty messy bottom. It turned out it was a ecuniculi symptom. Please take your bunny to a bunny savvy vet as soon as you can just to be safe.

I use a thin layer of pine pellets with a fluffy hay layer on top. I dump the whole box every other day. No odor that I can detect.
