agree it’s a bit hard to tell. What greens has he been getting? Have there been any less-sludgy looking pees as well?

That’s a good point Bam, regarding all the changes. My gut tells me it is just his body flushing out the calcium. He does drink a pretty good amount of water already, if you look in previous pics there’s 2 white bowls and he’ll empty at least one by the end of the day, sometimes 1 and a half. I’ll try the wet veggies too though! Thank you for ans…[Read more]

It’s a bit difficult to see if it really is thick and cakey of a worrisome nature, or if it is within the scope of normal. Here are some good pix of normal pee vs cakes urine:

You will have to keep a close eye of course. Encourage water intake by serving him wet greens and…[Read more]

Today I noticed Fresno peed on his bed and it was thick and cakey, which I know can be caused by excess calcium but I want to make sure it’s not something I should be really concerned about. Can this be caused by the increase in pellets he’s been getting? I started out just giving him a tablespoon and have gradually increased it to 1/4 cup a day,…[Read more]

If his pee is thick he could perhaps be drinking a less than ideal amount. If he gets fresh greens, you could serve them dripping wet for extra moisture. I would assume many changes are taking place on his body now when he goes from being malnourished to having ample amounts of nutritious food a available to him.
Some buns really are particular…[Read more]

what brand do you use?

I change my litter box every two days, after that my bun stops using it because it’s too soiled, and I usually just take all the extra hay he tosses around and pulls out of his extra hay racks and boxes and put it into the litter box so he isn’t sitting in his own poops.

I have a small air purifier I turn on in my room with my rabbit that helps keep the mustiness out, and traps dust and bunny fur. It does have a cord, so I either only use it when I’m in the room or place it up higher.

I use a kitchen scoop with slightly flexible sides so I can get in the edges better. I have a litter screen on top, so i do dump all the poops out! My Fable is spayed but her poops still smell strongly of onions sometimes so definitely need to dump daily, haha. The scoop stays in the bag of litter.

Ohh that makes more sense Wick. I thought you were over here dumping the entire litter box every day, which is what I do rather than spot clean because I ain’t got time for that. And since Fresno isn’t neutered yet he’s got some real oniony poops and I don’t think spot cleaning would cut it lol! But I can especially see the need to when you hav…[Read more]

I have tried the lint roller on my Fable and it does not work, hahaha. The reusable ones use fabric texture to grab fur, rather than stickiness, so it’s a different mechanism, though I argue more effective for surfaces. On the rabbit itself, it doesn’t do much unfortunately.

Hi Wick! Surprisingly his hay isn’t much of a problem, but since he is heavily molting, his fur is everywhere in our home haha. I was hoping the air purifer could help more with dust and pollen as my mom is much more sensitive to those and suffers from asthma as well and if it happens to also help with some drifting fur then great!
I really want…[Read more]

I do all litterboxes once a day. I don’t think I go through more litter necessarily though. I do not dump everything. I salvage whatever hay I can and only scoop out litter that’s been soaked. I use the wood-stove pellets, so a lot of solid pellets still remain (i.e. completely dry) and I only scoop out really damp, sawdust portions (i.e. pellets…[Read more]

I do not have an air purifier, but there are three main things that have been helpful for me re: allergies/irritation from hay and fur:
- Face mask – How timely, and these have a dual-use now due to the pandemic (haha?). I have a set of fabric face masks that I use when I change litterboxes and interact with their hay. I just have a hook by the…

The new room might have stirred things up just because it was new and they were in their honeymoon phase. Some pairs have to re-establish things in each new territory.
When you were first bonding them, did they do better with less space? Wondering if starting a bit smaller might help them at first, then you can slowly expand to the full room…[Read more]

Does anyone have recommendations for pet air purifiers? We might be getting other pets in the future but for now it’s mainly for Bentley and allowing us to be breathe without fur up our noses 😆

For years and years I’ve fed Oxbow Adult essentials. I still think it’s a very good brand, but decided to give the Sherwood timothy adult a try. So far I like them! Although they have some somewhat questionable marketing practices, which I am not a huge fan off (they definitely push people to give positive reviews, and have even do covert…[Read more]

Yes definitely get her to the vet ASAP, she is nearing an emergency situation (or is in one already) if she has stopped eating and pooping.
