Wick & Fable replied to the topic Gender confusion & Pee smells 🙁 in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years, 3 months ago
My Wick’s testicles didn’t drop until he was 8mo, and that’s a pretty accurate number because he was going to the vet at least once a month for other reasons so late bloomers definitely exist.
Incorrectly sexing rabbits is very common, regardless of how experienced someone is. Many accidental litters result from incorrectly sexing…[Read more]

Some buns do molt a lot, but it also varies from year to year, I’ve noticed. My bunny Bam could shed endlessly one year and normally the next. Some buns shed in patches so they get bald spots. Which is still normal, albeit not very pretty 😂
It’s a good idea to put down hay in several places. It’s very natural for rabbits to forage a little here…[Read more]

New Zealand and American are similar breeds, but their body types are a bit different. I was mostly going off the color (NZ come in red and black) and size. However, color does not necessarily mean anything, particularly in mixed breeds. You might get a better idea once they are full grown. 🙂
Do you know how big they are now?

Congrats on your new bunny! Yes, definitely check out the Bunny Info section on this site. Lot’s of good information there.
Bam makes an excellent point. Soft baby coats are easy to care for, but that will all change once her adult coat comes it. Getting her used to being brushed now is a good idea.
As far as health concerns go, the only think I…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Sudden fighting in fixed rabbits in the forum BEHAVIOR 6 years, 3 months ago
A rabbit screaming is an extreme sign of distress, so immediate separation was absolutely the best call. What’s most likely happening is they are trying to establish who is the dominant between the two. Commonly, the female tends to be dominant, though that’s not always the case. Since they are both fixed (and my assumption is both recovered with…[Read more]

@Hazel From what I was told, the parents had been wandering the neighborhood long before the breeders moved in. The breeders showed up in January, but the parents had been around for at least a year before that.
@LBJ10 I looked at some photos online and the closest breed I can see is the Standard American Rabbit. The New Zealands are longer and…[Read more]

My boyfriend and I got a pair of rabbits in May, male and female siblings, after mine suddenly died. We got them both spayed and neutered about 3 weeks ago. Suddenly today our female kept trying to hump our male and was being super aggressive about it. After a while of him trying to get away they started fighting. He actually was screaming because…[Read more]

Welcome! Being a first-time rabbit owner is not a small task, but it sounds like you’re taking initiative to learn, and that’s what’s most important!
I agree with Bam that the best “first scan” of information comes from looking at the RABBIT INFO portion of this website. There’s a lot there and the BB forum community is happy to help to clarify…[Read more]

Sounds similar to what my little dude does. He’ll kinda run around my feet and dart around then go to his spot and flop down, probably because he’s so tired.

A many more than 24 hour update:
No more scuffling or fur pulling still 🙂 earlier however Nutmeg mounted Pebbles a couple of times (we think triggered by the excitement of my dad, who doesn’t see them often, coming to pet them) but she didn’t seem to care and they’ve been snuggling and affectionate since. We’re now thinking maybe the scuffle…[Read more]

Congratulations and very welcome to Binky Bunny!
We have a bunny info page, where you can find general tips and ideas about bunny care, diet, bunny proofing etc. https://binkybunny.com/house-rabbit-information/
I cant think of any special needs a baby lionhead would have. As she grows, her fur will (obviously!) grow, and brushing will (again,…[Read more]

I am a new bunny momma! I just adopted an 8 week old lionhead female. Her name is Dixie! She is the prettiest girl ever!! I am so in love with her and I want to make sure I am caring for her correctly! She is our first bunny and our only fur baby. I worry about everything lol and I fear I will do more harm than good. My goal is to allow her to…[Read more]

It was so nice of you to adopt these rabbits. If you wanted to give your general location, you may get some vet suggestions if there are people who live in your area.
Even though you say the rabbits are cuddling and happy together, it would be best to separate them until they have been neutered and have gone through a bonding routine…[Read more]

It is wonderful of you to take them in. Maybe you could ask shelters/rescues in your area what vet they use? Here is the HRS list of rabbit vets, per US states:
https://rabbit.org/vet-listings/
They are marking their way through your home now, much like male cats would do. Be very vigilant, if they get into a bad fight they can hurt each other…[Read more]

Thank you so much for the advice DanaNM!!! I’m gonna have to try the clicker training thing. Seems really interesting and fun. I look forward to the day when Alaska really starts to trust me. 😀 She’s for sure worth the wait. So cute how Bunston would do that!!! Love seeing bunnies play.
