1. I use layer of Yesterdays news (paper based litter) and top with hay.

Yes, as A&B says, this is a molting pattern. Rabbits can look very raggedy when they molt. Throw in hay and some treats to entice them. I did this while I was petsitting now my friend always does it to the packaging box when her hay gets delivered. Her buns love it.

Young rabbits only really need one source of alfalfa, so if you feed alfalfa pellets and timothy hay, you should be good.

Another brand that sells the compressed hay is Oxbow, they have different kinds of flavors to add an appeal to the hay as well.

I got my boys at 8 weeks and I never fed them alfalfa hay. I only ever fed Timothy and orchard. It made it less of a hassle when when they transition off it at 6 months anyways.

It’s just a molting pattern, so that’s normal. Give him a good brush everyday. The best thing to do is pull the loose pieces of fur out. A good trick is to lint roll him. It’ll get off all the fur left from plucking him.

A couple more thoughts, some people like to use a puppy pee pad at the bottom of their litter box. If you did this under the grate, it would be very easy to clean. The main reason for bedding of some sort is to prevent the urine from actually touching the bun, and keep odors down. Just suggesting this as it would prob be easier/cheaper to get pee…[Read more]

When I’m cleaning their room.. girl is always by my feet licking me and the other one keeps headbutting and biting the dustpan while I’m on my hands and knees.
Usually feed them once the room is clean so that’s probably why haha.. but mannn it’s so painful cleaning their room….

I agree with the suggestion about wearing a mask while dealing with the hay, and N95 if you can find one. The ones with the valves aren’t as useful for medical professionals so those might be easier to find.
