    You might ask the rescue where they get their hay. At minimum they can prob point you to some local sources, and some rescues also sell hay for pretty cheap. 🙂

    Horse hay has the same nutritional profile as rabbit hay – in fact  horses and rabbits are very much alike. Both animals are hind gut fermenters, whereas cows and sheep are fore gut fermenters. Both rabbits and horses need skinny, high fibre food.

    Rabbits can have certain preferences where hay is concerned. Some prefer soft, third cut hay, some…[Read more]

    @Bam Thank you! One bun is about 1 year 5 months and the other is about 5 years old. The animal rescue told me that the 1 year old didn’t wanna eat the Timothy hay until they mixed in orchard grass and other buns came into the shelter. Thanks for the chart!! Most of the listings said horse hay, but are a little far from me.

    Brome grass is fine. Any grass hay is fine for rabbits. Young rabbits can also have alfalfa hay, which is a legume hay with more protein and calcium than grass hays. Here is a hay chart with nutritional values for many types of hay. (It’s a guinea pig site but rabbits and guinea pigs eat the same types of…[Read more]

    It can be difficult to get a bun to eat hay once he’s tasted fresh greens. It’s really great that you have managed to get him to eat hay again. You are more stubborn than a rabbit, that is quite an accomplishment!

    Rabbits can be very particular about what type of hay they prefer, but any grass hay is good for them. The best grass hay is,…[Read more]

    A word of warning with spring mix: it is sold with the intent to be used up within 1-2 days, so if it ends up being a good option for you, I would recommend not getting the larger containers and opting to getting the smaller ones — the larger ones end up going bad very fast, so typically after the 3rd or 4th day, you can’t really use any of it…[Read more]

    Thanks everybody! 🙂

    @DanaNM : Me too! Can’t believe I caught his tongue. 😆

    @ThorBunny : I usually just take a video and then see if I can get any good screenshots out of it, otherwise it would all be a blur. 🙂  They turn out okay, it would work better if my phone could do slow motion though. Love your tea towels! 😀

    (I asked my mom because I don’t have Facebook and I don’t know anyone who buys hay)

    I live in an area with farms and I went to a farm feed store and they said they had no hay… I asked my mom to post to Facebook asking for hay, and to message her friends. One of her friends told her that hay is really hard to get this year in my area. ): I’m looking on Kijiji right now and I see one that says they have a mix of Timothy, o…[Read more]

    @PancakeOwner Yes, the link would be great, thanks. 🙂 That’s a good idea with the tape on the tarp. I think I’ll try that!

    Thanks for all the responses!

    I definitely don’t think it’s anything to be worried about. I just thought it was such a funny coincidence that both rabbits got that little spot!

    I agree it could be that it could just be their mature coat color coming through (they’re also having their first big molt). They did have siblings that were white with…[Read more]

    It was difficult to make my boy to eat hay when he has started to eat fresh vegetables he does not seem to enjoy the dried hay anymore. He was stubborn. So I had to try out various ways and he ends up eating oxbow orchard grass again so I now mix it with timothy. He is eating hay again and I will add more types of hay to encourage his appetite.

    I am glad to hear that your rabbits have the same routine as mine since I got worried since he starts to drink more water when eating hay. 😬 Thank you so much guys !
