@princedorianthebun Wow you have a good eater! That’s cute that you make the pellets into a game. Thanks for the info. 🙂

@Louiethebunny Yeah I’ll have to wait and see if my buns will eat a lot of veggies and hay. Aw Lola, I hope with time she will grow to like her veggies.

Interesting! My vets have said something similar about pro-biotics for rabbits. They have essentially said hay is the best probiotic/prebiotic, and that good hay consumption will facilitate the correct assemblage of microbes in the gut. I’m guessing the combo of the hay itself, and whatever trace amounts of dust etc are on it. She did say…[Read more]

Thats good she is a good hay eater! That means she might be good with just this one burring. 🙂

@princedorianthebun Thank you!! Yeah I do see things contradicting each other from different websites on how much you should feed the bun. That’s actually interesting on the wild bunnies. I was just saying it because of the disease going around, that the kale in the garden shouldn’t be infected because the disease isn’t in my area. I am going…[Read more]

While inconvenient and risky, could you talk to someone you know who can bring you and her to the vet? If you’re worried about exposure, perhaps ask for friends/family who may be indoors for the past two weeks and are low-risk.

I asked my HRS chapter and there was very much a push for going to the vet ASAP. It is good that you’re noting times and…[Read more]

Thank you very much for the advices!

I’ll cut everything except hay and a little pellets today and see what happens. She loves grass more, but oh well. I was giving her a bit of vegs for 1,5 months already.

she is a bit better today, a little less of that freaky sound, but it is still there. She still is not energetic, as usual. Still a…[Read more]

@Wick: Oh, ok, they aren’t agressive, and haven’t shown any aggression, other than some thumping from Louie which isn’t really aggression, so I’ll allow some interaction, but the minute it turns bad I’ll separate. Their speed date went super well and ended in some cuddling, so hopefully their actual bonding isn’t too long and strenuous.

Thumping seems like a normal reaction to having an unbonded rabbit zoom-ing about! It could be an expression of frustration, fear, etc., but pretty non-threatening so I wouldn’t worry too much. My Fable thumps when I’m too loud while she’s sleeping, haha.

It sounds like you have a good plan going forward with pre-bonding procedures.

I’m in the Seattle Area, but I just adopted a sweet girl for Louie! There’s a group or two on Facebook for rabbits in the PNW you might find helpful for rehoming.

Hi.. its a few days later and I’m having a little trouble, so I wanted to check in here again. Lola seems pretty happy-go-lucky, and Louie not so much. When Lola was binkying and zooming around the rug, Louie thumped at her. Is that normal? I’m assuming that because he’s not used to living with other rabbits, it’s normal to notice some strange…[Read more]

So not an August photo, but just found photos from when I first met Dorian at the shelter and he totally stole my heart. Trying to figure out if he’s grown since then, I mean I could just stick him on the scale but that’s likely to require bribery. I feel his fur has gotten a little darker, but it changes so much depending on lighting I am not sure.

I have been calling him Flame, Midnight Flame, Flamie and Flamie Diablo.  No devil in this one just because of the black head with fire on his back!  I will be taking him for a check up/stool sample, then a neuter.  He is so good with the litterbox I wonder if already neutered but I would guess someone irresponsible enough to dump him outside wo…[Read more]

From my vet, generally greens that are safe for humans and horses are safe for buns. Same with herbs. There are a few like spinach and parsley that should be eaten in moderation. Kale and other brassicas are controversial, Dorian loves it and has no issues… so best bet there is start simple and then slowly add one by one and monitor. Rabbit…[Read more]

Louiethebunny replied to the topic Are pellets necessary? in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago

It really depends on your rabbit’s eating habits. Louie devours all kinds of greens and fruits, so he may be able to cute down on pellets and receive enough nutrients from veggies, but Lola is more reluctant to munch her veggies, (most likely because she came from a rescue that can’t provide a variety of greens.) So I make sure she eats pellets to…[Read more]

prince dorian the bun replied to the topic Best way to store hay? in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago

I get a big box (25lbs) online and keep it in my basement storage area as I don’t really have room for it upstairs, it comes in a big plastic bag inside the box which I just semi seal up. I then cram as much as I can in a tupperware storage container that I keep in his room and last me almost a week so I don’t have to go trot down to the storage…[Read more]

I think it is a discussion you really should make on your vet as a lot depends on your ability to feed a variety and your buns health/eating habits. I was told Dorian is a good candidate as he eats a good amount of hay and loves his leafy greens & herbs. I also give a large variety, as in a minimum of 3 different types a day and a minimum of 9…[Read more]

@Bu20055 Yeah, that could work as long as it is really waterproof. I don’t have experience with those covers but yeah. Fleece on top is nice. I think you would just need something to put on the walls to make it waterproof so the wood doesn’t get wet. I wouldn’t normally suggest just making just a wood box because the bunny can’t see out of it. I g…[Read more]

@Moonlightbunny66 That’s a good idea. She could probably make a basic pen out of plywood even since the inside he’d have access to would be covered in the waterproof flooring.

Do you think one of those waterproof mattress protectors could work for the floor? The part that wraps around the bed could wrap around the outside of the pen. She could…[Read more]
