jerseygirl replied to the topic Why is my Medically Healthy Rabbit not Eating or Pooping? in the forum BEHAVIOR 6 years, 1 month ago
If it provides any peace of mind, I did a search of various forums and found orbax being prescribed for rabbits for various ailments as far back as 2011. One of our newer members here had their bunny on it recently.

Hi there
I wouldn’t be too worried about the orbifloxacin. It’s in same “family” of antibiotics as baytril. Many of the meds we give rabbits are actually used off-label ie. don’t have official approval for use in rabbits. It’s a shame as so many are probably tested on rabbits before coming into the market!
She may be a little off food in the…[Read more]

My version of stand-offs is just grooming requests. There has been some grooming one way but it is very minimal. They don’t get upset if the request is not met. I have been doing sessions for as long as possible for me each day and I haven’t really been timing them. I haven’t had to separate them because they fought only because of my schedule.…[Read more]

Here’s the latest on Hunny:
1.) Even though we were told the blood test had been sent out, we eventually found out it never was.
2.) Hunny has gotten by the past two weeks by eating only soaked pellets. She occasionally tried to eat hay but could never get anywhere with it and instead used it almost like a toy.
3.) We took Hunny to a dentist…[Read more]

My original post isn’t showing up:
We took Hunny to the dentist today. He anesthetized her and filed down her misaligned front teeth. He also took x-rays and found an abscess near one of my girl’s back molars. The dentist prescribed orbifloxacin, an antibiotic not FDA-approved for rabbits but apparently safe for them. We are to give Hunny the…[Read more]

So she was doing better but today she seems to be slowing down. She’s eating enough but has only pooped maybe 15 normal sized poops all day. I gave her some simethicone this morning and some guy motility meds. Is there anything I can do? I don’t have any pain meds left.

Oh, I’m saddened to read this. I’m sorry you lost your girl. Binky Free, Sweet little Reese!
I’m also glad the boys have each other, but I’m glad you have them too. I find it’s a comfort to have other fur babies to love on when you have suffered a loss. I hope they provide that for you.

Sending so many (((hugs))). I am very sorry for you loss. I know this hurts so much & must be such a shock.
I agree it was likely something like a heart attack or stroke.
I understand your regret taking her today but please don’t beat yourself up over that. Your intention was to get her a health check -a perfectly normal & caring thing to do- an…[Read more]

prince dorian the bun replied to the topic How much veg for my buns? in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago
I was confused about this at first, since they are both adjusting start smaller, maybe 2 -3 cups for both of them and see how they eat and if they have any issues, you can then add more as you and the buns feel comfortable. I pretty much free feed veg, well I put a bowl down in the morning (I’d say about 1 to 2 lose cups) and if he finishes it and…[Read more]

Oh my gosh, I’m so so sorry. 🙁
My mind goes to a potential heart attack. Is your vet able to do a necropsy? I would hope they would given the circumstances. Did the vet say anything about the check up itself?
I’m also obligated to ask, are you within the RHDV2 outbreak area? It causes sudden death, which could have been coincidental to the vet…[Read more]

I’m thinking of putting louie in a bowl to weigh him… he won’t sit still to get weighed. Dorian was (and still is) SO CUTE in that photo. Louie’s old foster owner sent us a photo of him when he was only three months back in march and he was so fluffy!

“When do I know they are bonded? I don’t think they are bonded yet because I still haven’t seen Calliope truly groom Theo but is that the only thing I should look for? They do everything else great, they cuddle, share food and a litter box, they can climb on top/over each other, etc. The only thing they don’t do is consistently groom each other,…[Read more]

I’m sitting in the parking lot of the vet right now and I don’t know what else to do other than making this post.
My 5 year old perfectly healthy bunny just died at the vets after a health check up. I’m still shocked as I haven’t seen her body. I just got a call from the vet, I couldn’t go in with her because of covid 19 regulations at the…[Read more]

I read that you should give 1 cup for every 2lbs of bunny. One bun is 11lbs and the other is 7lbs. 5 1/2 cups for the bigger bun? Is that too much?? 3 1/2 for the smaller one sounds more normal but what do you guys think? And they’re used to getting a handful of veg in the morning and another at night (they are still in the animal rescue, I get t…[Read more]

I have only been doing session for a week. They have known each other for about 2 months, but they weren’t living next to each other that whole time. There was about a week of cage swaps before I started sessions but they did live next to each other for longer than that. Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks for the advice, I will wait until they get…[Read more]

@PrinceDorian That picture it just takes my heart away! Dorian is SO handsome in it! 😀 As for checking his weight, maybe you could stand on the scale holding him and see how much was gained? Just a thought, it’s what I do occasionally to see how much weight my pets have amassed 😆
