LOL. I offered her a little piece and she sniffed it, so I left it in her enclosure and she just stepped on it. She didn’t like to eat really anything but hay when we got her almost two weeks ago now, but shes learning to gobble up the food I give her.

Currently, I just let each bun out for playtime, then clean their enclosures out. Hopefully they are bonded soon and can play together so it’s a little faster. I agree, sounds territorial, as well as the fact that they are new to your home, so their pen is their main space right now.

Thank you! I will look into a treat ball or even one of those “foraging” bowls.

hey all! didn’t think this really fit in the q & a or anything since its more of a casual question, but i want to hear about your New England rexes! How are their personalities and whatnot? I’ve only ever really had holland lops and a few lionheads, and i know every breed is a little different. you can post pics too, cos they’re adorable! getting…[Read more]

I agree it could’ve been choking. Small pellets are worse than bigger pellets. The recommended preventative measure is to serve pellets in a treat ball or just scattering the pellets so the buns can’t gobble them up in one go.
Its very good to look into how to deal with a choking incident, should one occur. Its called a bunny Heimlich. You never…[Read more]

We are not giving up on Hunny, rest assured. I meant to post last night, but forgot: my girl was behaving much more like her old self last night. We got 30-something ml of Critical Care in around 10:00 PM, and Hunny showed interest in a hay-based toy; she spent a good 10 minutes chewing it to the extent she could. I got kisses, snuggles,…[Read more]

@Bu20055 Thank you!! Yeah they’re probably just hoping I’ll keep giving them veggies and pellets lol.

They definitely enjoy pellets and veggies better. It’s like giving a child the choice between cake and salad lol. 😉
Yeah I’ve heard reducing meals helps with hay consumption. Some buns come to rely on veggies and pellets if they know they’ll have enough to fill them up. Dried herbs in the hay can help encourage them to eat more because of the m…[Read more]

@Louiethebunny Thank you so much! I’m gonna try doing every other day too. Where do you put the bunnies when you’re cleaning? One of my bunnies hates when I touch stuff in his pen. I have to put him in the carrier to clean but it still makes him mad. I do the same with the other bunny just in case he’ll get mad too, but he doesn’t mind as much. I…[Read more]

@Bu20055 Yeah, everyone says they eat soooo much hay but I get excited when I see them eat a few pieces! I think maybe they enjoy the pellets and lettuce better. If I feed them once a day maybe they’ll go to their hay more often? 🤔 What if I sprinkled dried herbs or some little basil pieces in the hay rack?

Hazel replied to the topic New bond mate and new kitten in the forum BONDING 6 years ago
She probably feels cornered being locked in her cage while the kitten is closing in. I would put the kitten in a carrier in the rabbit’s room, and let the bun out of the cage. That way she can investigate on her own terms without any unpleasantness.

Hazel replied to the topic Rabbit spitting out food? Choking?? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years ago
It sounds like she could have been choking. Oscar used to eat too fast and choke on his pellets. He would be eating and then suddenly start running around the room until he managed to dislodge the food. Then he would spit it out like Lola did. I bought a treat ball for him to put his food in which forces him eat slowly (scattering his food around…[Read more]

Wow okay, did not know that. I can leave some mashed banana for her in the night but my other buns eat up everything 🥴
Also, how do we decide what to do? After looking at the x-ray? The vets are not telling me anything.
There is a new problem. Lately there are a lot of lipoma kind of growths on her, they weren’t there before. Right under her…[Read more]
