Glad you have some leads and treatment options!
If the banana doesn’t work you can ask them for a “pill popper” or see if they can compound it as a liquid for you.

thanks everyone for the advice, we just got done at the vet and i wanted to update. she had bloodwork and x-rays done, and the vet says she can see some debris in her inner ear on the xray, so she’s thinking it’s an ear infection especially since she’s been scratching her ears a lot. she gave me antibiotics, anti inflammator meds, and pills to he…[Read more]

It does sound like EC, but ear infections can cause some wild symptoms too. To treat for EC she needs a full 28 day course at 20mg/kg, so if she was only on it for 2 weeks that would explain it.
Keeping her in a padded, dimly lit, and somewhat small space would be safest, I hope you get some answers soon!

thanks, she seemed to be okay through the night and ate some but now this morning she’s hiding and doesn’t want to eat. her vet appointment isn’t for another 6 hours, so i’m hoping i can get her to eat by then. i’ll update after her appointment

It’s important to make sure she cant hurt herself on things in her surroundings if she has more seizures. Make sure she eats and keeps warm. Avoid bright lights and high noises in her area if at all possible. A good friend that had an elderly with chronic ec found that gentle head rubs and classical music (Mozart) on a low volume seemed to calm…[Read more]

if anyone saw my post yesterday about my rabbit acting kinda wobbly for a few seconds, i didn’t think it was a seizure until tonight. the same thing happened but ended in her flipping and spinning on the ground really hard. i have an appointment for the vet tomorrow at 11, but is there anything i can do for her before then? right now she’s jus…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Cataract or something else?? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 1 month ago
I think it’s a good plan to keep an eye on it. It’d good to keep a little “picture diary” so you can keep track of changes to that cloudy streak -but rabbits are notoriously difficult to get really sharp pics of.
You’ll obviously notice if he gets more eye boogers or if the eye becomes red and irritated.

Biscuit@Smores replied to the topic Cataract or something else?? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 1 month ago
He doesn’t have redness in his eye, and the cloudy streak seems to have lightened up but I am still being cautious. I would take a picture, but taking the first one was already a big hassle and I dont want to bother him again. His eye did have a white eye booger once but no other symptoms. He is still behaving normally and playing with his brother.

I do think it would be best to have the vet check it out. They can also check the eye pressure. If it’s an age-related cataract that can also go along with an increase in eye pressure which can be painful (but treatable with eye drops).
I also agree EC shouldn’t be ruled out. More and more cataracts that were thought to be “just age” are being…[Read more]

A speck in a young rabbit’s eye can be a sign of ec, or it can be an infection (pasteurella). It’s difficult to diagnose, some very good vets can use a fine needle to take a sample of what’s in the speck and cultivate it – don’t think that’s very commonly done. My good rabbit vet doesn’t do it. EC is the primary suspect anyway.
Cataracts can…[Read more]

If it’s a white-ish blob or streak inside the eye, I don’t know what else it would be. Uveitis can also be caused by glaucoma, which is more common in older rabbits. Either way, I would have a vet take a look.

Biscuit@Smores replied to the topic Cataract or something else?? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 1 month ago
He isn’t necessarily ‘young’, he is 8 (human years) and has always been relatively healthy. It doesn’t necessarily look like uveitis but, I will keep an eye on him.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Cataract or something else?? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 1 month ago
Looks like uveitis. How old is your bunny? This is typically seen in younger bunnies with EC. You should have a vet check it out before things progress. EC is relatively inexpensive to treat. But the treatment is long/slow so you have to keep at it. Typical treatment is Panacur for at least 28 days.

Oh I didn;t realize she wasn’t already spayed! I’m sure things will go much more smoothly now! It can take 3-4 weeks for hormones to fully settle so if things seem crazier in 3 weeks time give her another week or two to chill.

quick update! Archie has been spayed, and she’s currently recovering. in the few days that Archie was gone, Libby was absolutely despondent – he kept rattling the bars of her enclosure like he usually does when he wants her attention, and he ran circles looking for her. whenever they interact outside of the enclosure, it’s more of the same with…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Vet suggests against Panacur??? in the forum BONDING 2 years, 1 month ago
EC can manifest in many weird ways. It can affect any organ system that has a high blood supply. The “classic” head tilt is definitely not always present. Not all rabbits present with nystagmus (“tracking), balance issues or hind end weakness, but in those that do, those symptoms can be rather subtle. That EC can affect the kidneys/urinary tract…[Read more]

That’s good to know, thank you. Although when the vet tried convincing me otherwise, they never mentioned bone marrow suppression, which is weird! I frankly have become less and less trusting the more I go to this vet. They have told me twice that Winnie looks healthy in scans, blood tests, urine tests and in a physical and that she doesn’t show…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Vet suggests against Panacur??? in the forum BONDING 2 years, 1 month ago
Panacur (fenbendazole) can cause bone marrow suppression. It’s not a common side effect, but many vets want to do blood tests mid treatment to make sure the rabbit is fine, bc bone marrow failure is a very serious side effect. Some vets do insist on testing the bun for ec before they’re willing to prescribe Panacur or oxibendazole.
I only know…[Read more]

So I told my vet that I want to preventatively give my rabbit Panacur because she’s getting worse and showing symptoms of e cuniculi (head tilt, circling, pooping and peeing everywhere, acting weird), but my vet advises against that until I get a test done because Panacur is dangerous and can cause liver problems, anemia, etc?? I’m not sure what…[Read more]

Hello! I found that one of my bunnies has a cloudy eye. There was some white eyebooger(?) Which i was able to remove, but in that eye he has a small streak of white. The day before his eye was slightly watery, but it didn’t seem too concerning. He is acting normal and seems to be able to see fine but I am slightly concerned. They usually get some…[Read more]
