It looks like it could be an abscess. Swelling of the face could make it hard to see his teeth.

You can get metal cable ties at the hardware store, or you could also use some thin wire, as long as you were careful to have the ends out of reach.

Is he peeing “normal” amounts of pee in these locations? Or is it small amounts?

I agree with can take some time, but it will vary by individual and how much trimming was done. If he’s eating everything else, then I wouldn’t be too worried yet. Give him a week or two. And, as Bam suggested, try a softer hay like orchard grass.

I’ve never heard of such a thing. I think it’s fine to do it whatever way works best. If they prefer having things separate, then that’s OK. Same goes for if they want them together.

Also what alternatives are there to zip ties? Esther tries to chew zip ties when she has access to them.
