🙁 I know multiple people have told me it’s very likely old age-related problems that are just manageable but I was really hoping it was something I could fix. I’ve got two super senior buns (assuming that is what’s going on with Fresno) and even Nora is 6-7 years old now. Quincy is at least 9 years old. Makes me really emotional.
I’ll update…[Read more]

He did alright Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday as well as today so far. He wasn’t drooling for long, maybe a few hours on Saturday and since then his chin has been dry. The vet looked at his teeth and they are growing points but not severe enough to put him under anesthesia and grind them down.
today he weighs 4.10lbs, the lowest yet. I’m terrified…[Read more]

I couldn’t get a picture but his sore spot looks mostly pink now, the lower part of it still looks red but its an improvement!

My senior bunny would have sneezing fits around his hay. I found that keeping him in the bathroom with me during a steamy shower for 5-10 minutes every few days really cut back on the sneezing 🙂

I would bond the younger two first and then introduce the older one. I would also make sure that bond is solid before introducing the 3rd. The 3rd would not need 1-on-1 with the younger ones unless there’s majors problems. At least with all my trios, this method only makes me have to deal with two potential fighters, never a 3-way fight; I only…[Read more]

Thank you for the validation, DanaNM! Once she ate the cilantro with the gas drops on it, I felt much better and it seems she feels better, too. No extra pellets, though she may have been eating more than her fair share, and the only “treats” they get are half a Oxbow digestive cookie but I did give them more than usual since their eating habits…[Read more]

I use castile soap. It’s been awhile so I’m not sure what brand. Maybe Dr Bronner’s or Kirk’s. Castile soap can be used as shampoo.

Ah, yeah I think Benebac is worth trying. There are also some other rabbit-specific probiotics out there now. Are his normal poops relatively good looking?
For the feet I usually look while standing and hopping along. I think it’s harder for them to keep their heels under while standing still so it may be more pronounced then.
This could also…[Read more]

No x-rays yet but perhaps at the next appointment. I have been wanting to get them done so I may just bite the bullet. All 3 vets I’ve taken him to haven’t thought it necessary but who knows, better to have a peace of mind in that regard.
The cecals aren’t well-formed, no. They’re very mushy and sticky from what I’ve seen. I can’t remember if…[Read more]

LOL classic bonding advice, a million opinions! Honestly there’s always a process of trial and error. If you try one method and it doesn’t seem to be working, try a dif method. Many argue that you should always work with all three, and eventually you do need to do that, but the method I suggested can help just get a sense of how things will go and…[Read more]

I’m sure your vet will be able to help, “sanitary shaves” are common, and they did really make a huge difference for Bun Jovi.
Has he had an x-ray of his hips and spine? It’ really good he’s still active and does his binkies, but that make it more unusual that he’s not able to get his cecals without them being stuck to him. Do they seem…[Read more]

He’s been on meloxicam but he has an appointment in a couple weeks to get a checkup and medication refill so I’ll ask the vet about Tramadol. The weird thing to me is that Fresno’s spirits are quite high, he still does his binkies and his appetite is always ravenous and he looks good, he’s just a bit thin and has the cecal issue. Is this still…[Read more]

Thanks for the reply. Of course, now I’ve gotten 3 different replies across 2 forums all saying different things. Ugh idk anymore.
To add extra context on the rabbits’ personalities: Rin and Piko both appear to have dominant personalities so I’m afraid they’d clash. I’m not sure about Len, but he is really energetic so I’m afraid he’d be too much…[Read more]

Thank you so much for that info, thats very reassuring to know your 2 kilo bun’s dose in comparison too, I’m glad its a reasonable dose my vet gave! This is a new vet I haven’t seen before so that was a fear in the back of my mind even though she’s a rabbit savvy professional mistakes can happen
I noticed 2 hours before his next dose he seemed…[Read more]

I agree that a sanitary shave can help a lot. Bun Jovi had this exact issue due to his arthritis and hind leg weakness. I had the vet do the first shave, and then I maintained it myself after that. I used a knock-off “manscaped” type trimmer as they are less likely to accidentally nick them. Sometimes I would even just shave off the stuck on…[Read more]

Bonding, especially 24/7 bonding, can be stressful for rabbits. It sounds like your female might have been having a bit of GI discomfort, but that it probably passed (sometimes they just get a gas bubble that makes them very uncomfortable for a short while). Were they getting extra treats or pellets during bonding? I’m wondering if maybe she…[Read more]

Would a sanitary shave help? That’s what we did for my elderly bun. He would still get poo stuck to his hind legs, but it came off pretty easily with shampoo and a butt bath.

Fresno has been doing fairly well except for the fact that he’s been very messy with his cecals. He doesn’t reach down to his bum area to get the cecals directly from the source, but rather, he’ll dispense them and then turn around and look for them on the floor to then eat. This isn’t always effective – not to mention it makes the floor messy…[Read more]
